The fog was so thick down here on the Harbor that you couldnt see the end of your nose at 7am, burned off around 10.30 Mark

Post by: wrangler on April 14, 2010, 08:41:52 PM: haven't been out yet, im skippin the opener but i'll be in sherman next week, friday-sunday. im more interested in choppin some wood, findin a campsite and maybe a turkey. im in mexico for 10 days after that and i get back may 3rd. from then on out i got 4, 4 day weekends to find me an ugly blond that weighs close to 400lbs, walks on all 4's and *censored*s in the woods! :chuckle: good luck to all the tag holders, its the best year you could ask for to have this tag!

I hope to get to see the bear that did it! Did see 2 coyotes and a very small bear this morning. Coyotes came running in to about 100 yards on my first setup, just didn't want to shoot a yote and waste that area. There is a big bear in there somewhere. :drool:

i hope to be out with the PSE this sunday, need to replace teh limbs and get it shooting broadheads tomorrow. if theres time. if not i will still be out there with the pea shooter!

Post by: steen on April 16, 2010, 08:48:19 AM: I found some large tracks while riding horse that were wider than the base of my hands. The biggest tracks I've seen so far. It will be fun to try for him in the later season after our mule deer hunt.

I've never done any of that but I can labor and I have a degree in culinary arts where I learned to cut meat among other things. I'm unemployed and can usually make time away from my 2 year old son and my homework. I'm not looking for any compensation other than the experience and maybe a few pointers for my own hunting.

He just stood there looking at me for about 3 seconds and with two bounds headed up a small creek bed up a certain draw. He didn't even budge until I swung my rifle up. I have all of next week off to try to pattern this bear. Been hunting the timberlands since 2006 and this is my first bear spot. And no, I am no road hunter. :drool:

Bears dont seem to stand next to the road for very long. I guess I know where to hunt know I'm starting to see them in the monroe unit.

i was there from thursday till today and didnt see much sign of bears yet.
saw a couple tree peels.
Saw LOTS of deer and a big herd of elk.

Wow hogsniper! You sure know that area better than I do. I haven't even been able to find any sign. Hurry up and get your bear so you can point me in the right direction. ;)

About two hours later jumped another one, he was standing in an over grown roadway,,, Got of one shot and watched as he bounded away un hurt. Learned a valuable lesson, those four foot tall alder saplings in the middle of an over grown road really mess up the flight of a bullet. Wont make THAT mistake again. Giving that area a couple of day break then I'll be back at em"

we bumped into each other im pretty sure. if you were driving a jeep. im pretty surprized you saw two bears in one day up there, nice. i also think i know what road you were on with the second ;)

wish i would see one , I have seen every thing out there but bears . This morning i seen a deer with just about all its hair gone.

Post by: NWWABOWHNTR on April 23, 2010, 08:38:27 PM: Saw about 30 elk today... got some crappy pics with my point and shoot but thru the rain at 500 yards the pics suck! Watched them thru my spotting scope for an hour. Some bulls that had shed... could see the nobs through my spotting scope. Might have to hike down there to the bottom this weekend and do some shed hunting! Only bear I saw was through the spotting scope on cut above me... 1000+ yards and gone in no time, feeding its way through the cut.

I would rather see one when I was hiking. I've seen 2 bears so far this season and both times I was in my truck. I never had a chance to shoot one atleast if you see one hiking you might get a shot. Bears dont seem to stay in the road long when a truck is coming

Glad it was a dink and not a 200+, did give me time to get out and take a quick look through the binos before it ran off. Kind of ironic, walk 3 miles in nothing, walk back 3 miles, get in the truck and see a bear. Well they are starting to get active, last two times out I have seen bear, just not one I want to tag. Did see some nice big blacktails in a clearcut this morning though.

Good luck out there! I am in a airport right now headed to AK to film brown bear hunts. I should be seeing plenty of bears within a couple days, and will post some pics if you guys like.

We could hear a bunch of noise and sticks breaking but couldnt tell where exactly it was coming from but new it was close. Well it stopped for a bit and I spotted a lot of fresh deer tracks and thought thats what it was so we backed out and went up the road to a landing and looked off and right below us was a fresh fresh peel that went up to about 40 ft in the tree. I was looking at it and jenna say's..."hes bedded at the bottom" This is about 15 yards. All she had was a head shot and I wanted to get some good film of it but he had other plans. He headed around the hill and i went to where we had started and their he stood. A 30 second stare down at a complete frontal not offering any shot, then smelled us and pulled a 180 and was gone! This the first bear she would have shot if given the opportunity! Head back out this evening so hope to find the one!
