Title: Results:"Best Bang for the Buck" question
Post by: konrad on April 15, 2010, 04:36:15 PM
Here are the results of the question I asked on “Best Bang for the Buck”. The results are from five different web-sites and represent the average response.

Savage: 11
Vanguard: 5
Howa: 5
Tikka: 4
Marlin: 4
Remington 700: 3
Ruger: 1
T/C: 1
Remington Model 7: 1

Thanks for all the input!
I think I feel a Savage moment coming on…

I voted rem. 700 but I still have the first rifle I got.......from my mom. It was a Savage 300. I love that gun. Good luck.....I don't think you will be disappointed.

I would suggest that you go and handle all of them. some love the tikka, some hate it, the savage seems clubby to me, but has the option of changing calibers cheap......they are all fine choices that should shoot well. just find the one that you like....it will shoot.

i'd have to second that.  i've handled the tikkas and didn't care for them(they're ugly, too), i've shot some of the new savages though.  they do have excellent triggers, i just don't like the multi-piece bolt.  just feels too sloppy for me.

best bang for the buck is great until two years down the road you want what you should have bought the first time and then you have to save the money you spent on the first one. My recommendation is handle them all and find what you like and then save to buy that one.

been doing that for years, buy a rifle that is "cheap" then a couple years later i find myself disliking the rifle i bought and wanting something different...which usually ends up being the rifle i wanted in the first place and settled for less.

this go around im buying what i want and will do it right. ive went through quite a few different rifles over the last 5 years or so.

You are right when it comes to buying what you like.
I like wooden stocks so that limits the selection a bit.
If you don't enjoy playing with it, you probably won't spend much time carrying it afield.

that's what i did.  i was leaning really heavily toward a howa, but said screw it and bought the one i really wanted(win m70 featherweight in 7-08).

Why pick one? That looks like a great list to me......just convice your wife that in these troubled times guns are the only sound investment.  I buy at least one rifle a year and I'd like to own at least one of each of those on the list. :P
