Nice critters elkpack !!! What recurves were the two of you using? Nothing more satisfying than a nice shot with traditional equipment ! :IBCOOL:
-
great pics guys
-
Ratdog68, I took both of those Rosies with my Damon Howatt Hunter recurve 53lbs @ 28". I draw at just a bit over 30" so it shoots at about 58-60lbs for me. Damon Howatt archery was bought out years ago by Martin Archery...they still carry the same basic bow called the Martin Hunter. As you say, it's always rewarding to harvest an animal with traditional gear.
-
i think he thought there was 2 of you :chuckle: not that they were both you. i have shot a few damon howatt bows they are nice bows, good shooting

I'm familiar with Damon Howatt... I have a Diablo... and an X-200 (Martin, probably made by DH). Besides the one I made myself... one of my favorite bows is my Martin Mountaineer longbow. Nicely done... harvesting with traditional gear... now THAT'S archery !!!

Elkpack... way to go! Two fine animals with trad gear; that is no easy feat. Congrats!

Great pics! Congratulations to all of you.
Nice bull, headhunter.
-
Congratulations to all.
I have comment on the topic of hunting pics that is timely: how a photo is staged and presented says alot about us as individuals and, sometimes unfortunately, hunters as a group. In my opinion, personal photo albums, not public forums are the place for pictures featuring gut piles, arrows still in the animal and severed heads. I think that on these public forums we need to show ourselves in the best light possible which requires some thought. I would suggest we think about it, please, when we are taking and sharing pictures.
-
There definately has to be some respect shown to the animal.
-
Congratulations to all.

That was a great buck brother!

2007,2008 and 2009 bulls

2010 mule deer in eastern idaho in december. it was -10 when he was hung over night before i got him to the butcher. good eating! blew the 30 yard shot and nailed him broadside at 60 yards when he turned around to see what happened.

All great animals !!!! Thanks for posting, looking gets me excited for the season. I disagree with the comments about cleaning up the pictures. I think it is silly to clean off blood, put tongues back in, etc. No reason to be gory but nothing wrong with an arrow, blood etc. If you want to brush the animals hair, & put some makeup on it also, then go ahead , but I don't see a single thing wrong with any picture above. It is a free country, if it offends you , don't look. My :twocents: . Mike
**** If you alternate your lifestyle because of a bully, hasn't the bully already won ? Good to be sensible for sure but the pictures discussed have not gone over any line that I can see. Congrats to all. Mike

It is a free country
Yes, and in this free state (country) I-713, the trapping initiative, was passed one week after the anti's ran a commercial showing a house kitty in a toothed, steel jaw trap; which wasn't even a legal trap in this free state (country); so their offensive advertisement had to be pulled off the air; but the damage had been done and the trappers lost.
What if the question of whether or not we can bowhunt winds up as a ballot initiative someday? Do you want a tasteless (and to some but not us offensive) photo to show up in an anti-hunting advertisement and for the non-hunting public to base their opinion of archery hunting on that one photo? Think about that. It is a free country and it seems reasonable to me to take precautions so as to not screw it up for everyone else.
Excuse me now, I need to go try on my new pantyhose & garter and touch up the make-up. But one more thing; let not this thread be completely hi-jacked by my comment. IF the topic of 'tasteful public success photos' is worthy of further consideration/discussion, then let's start a new thread so we can leave this one as it was intended.

Well done, Snapshot.
Back on topic:
Nice job with those bulls Fish-on. Looks like you have a pretty good string of successes going. Keep it alive this year!
-
Probably wont get the chance to hunt for myself this year. My hunting buddy drew the mudflow bull tag. So I am going to help him out by calling and packing for him. Will be a great year and a hell of a trip. I dont know who is more excited about the tag, him or me..lol
-
That horseshoe is going to fall out and tying it off is not going to do you any good!
-
Mrmorton, I am trying to figure out if that is one heck of a buck or if you have really short arrows. :chuckle:

Heheh...I was thinking big buck but maybe you're right. When you have alligator arms and an 18 inch draw everything looks big. :chuckle:
Just joking - nice buck.
-
nope, my arrow in that pic is just shy of 29". its a good buck

Nice Mulie !!!! Man I'm getting excited for Sept. Mike

Here is my 08 buck shot at less than 10 yards in his bed about 2/3 of the way down a clearcut. My buddies watched the whole thing and guided me down to him. He jumped out of his bed and ran uphill about 100 or so yards and died about 30 yards from the road.
-
Love the pictures guys. BTW, the picture I posted w/the arrow sticking out of it doesn't show the blind I took the shot from, it was a very fast kill. This was my second deer tag I drew that year. When I first started bow hunting in '86 I went into an archery shop in Spokane and say all these bloody arrows on display, it got me pumped up to do the same. ;)

I display my bloody arrows... on the wall of my archery den. :)
Highside74, Ten Yards! YES! :salute: So what is the hand signal for "Shoot already!"?
-
I didn't have a shot until I that close. This buck had himself the perfect bed. The only reason we new he was there was he was standing when they saw him the first time. Took us almost 10 minutes to find him after he bedded and we new where he was. I don't think he ever thought anybody would find him there and that's why he stayed put. At less than 20 all I could see was an ear and part of his rack. From across the clearcut looking back that's abiut all you could see also. His bed was so worn the dirt was shiny. What a morning. That was the second buck of the day. When I get home I will post a pick of the buck my buddy shot with his muzzleloader about 2 hours earlier.
-
Here's the other buck from the same morning.
-
Nice bucks!

here is a buck i took late season. not a monster but the opportunity was there. sorry no field pics, the one time i forget the camera. :bash: My tags are in my camera case so if i forget the camera im really screwed. Over a 1 hour stalk and 15 does with him some bedded and some feeding. This was the most fun hunt ive ever had and will always remember this buck.
-
looks like a nice heavy horned buck CS
-
congrats on your buck
-
03 and 04 bulls from Winston Creek. 03 was called in for a 12 yard shot. 04 was located with calling and then stalked in on - 50 yard shot. Both animals were actually shot while they were on logging roads. The 03 bull trotted about 50 yards before piling up right on the side of the road. The 04 bull made it about 75 yards in distance, but was only 40 yards above the road. Both were real tough packs :IBCOOL:
-
Here are a couple.....

Not the best pics - had to scan some, one crappy cell phone pic and no camera with me on the 2009 Bull

New guy to the forum, so here are a couple of shots from last season. I've been at it for three years and finally found success last year. Deer was shot on 2nd day of the season and the cow came after 8 days of hard hunting, actually stumbled across here 10 min into my 1-hr treck to my hunting spot (yes I shot her wearing shorts and a white t-shirt). Anyway both animals were heart shot (deer at 25yrds and elk at 40yrds), neither made it 50 yrds before falling over dead.
-
WELCOME!
-
Nice kills guys it almost makes me want to start bow hunting almost :chuckle:
-
Many great pictures.
