I got my Bear yesterday morning. It was a boar with a sweet coat. The coat is very full and thick. I was mtn bike hunting behind a gate and I was not seeing any sign. I was coming off a spur road and spotted him around a bend in the road about 100 yards away. I ditched my bike and took a 100' kneeling shot. I hit him and he went into THICK reprod. I could hear him but not see him. I finally put a kill shot on him about 100 yards into the reprod. My first shot broke his back but he was still going. The second finished him with a double lung. It was a bit spooky in that dog hair reprod being able to hear him but not see him. They are a tough animal. He was pprobably around 200 lbs. and had no fat. He was a beautiful bear and I'm very thankful. I tried to post a photo but I have not before so we'll see how it goes.

Thanks guy and good luck to all the others with tags.
I was pretty blessed- it was my first day out because of my current shift at work. He appeared to be walking the logging road eating grass.
Has anyone ate a spring bear? He didn't have much of a smell. I have ate them in the berries but never in the spring.

Here's another picture me and bear. I just had my self timer camers and didn't get may pictures. It's a pain by yourself trying to get good pictures.
-
I got him out whole. I got him out to the main road and it just so happened a DNR guy was driving up the road just as I was getting there. He hauled him out for me in his truck. It would have been a couple miles to my truck and I would have had to figure something else out. He hadn't been up that particular road in two years. I guess when lucks on your side it works out that way.

Congratulations!
-
Sweet! Do I detect a little white patch on his throat?

I actually got him more toward Grandy Lake. I did not have time to go get my DNR key so I deicide to head behind a Sierra Gate that I figured wouldn't get much traffic (on my bike).
I was shooting a 300 Win Mag with Federal Nosler 180 grain.
I think I'm going to do a rug. I could shoot a bigger bear but it would be pretty hard to beat his coat. He did have a small white spot on the chest. I have never seen a coat so full. From nose to tail he's about 5'4".
-
Well done. Bear hunting is a thrill for sure. You most definately lucked out on the DNR guys help.
-
Nice bear! I bet he'll make a great rug...

NICE!!!
-
very nice :brew: The ride out was a huge bonus too.

Early Spring Bears tend to have really nice coats. I bring some of my nicer bears in, in the spring. It is harder to get a nice full coat on a fall bear unless it is killed in late October/November.
-
Congrats on the awesome bear!
