Title: Roost question
Post by: jackelope on April 20, 2010, 04:46:08 PM
Anybody see turkeys roosting in the same area or same tree year after year...or all year long? In other words do habits change once the breeding season is over and the birds roost in other places? I live too far from where I hunt to spend a lot of time scouting and learning the birds, but I do go to the areas multiple times during the summer and fall....so......if I find where they roost in the summer or fall, will they be there or thereabouts come next spring or are they likely to be in a completely new area?

I've hunted the same area for 19 years and the birds roost in the same spots all year long. Now they might not be in that roost that day but they will always be back. This year the toms were in the same roosts everyday even after we shot two birds near that roost.

That is a good question and very helpful answer.  By the way, I like your grammar lesson signature file.   :chuckle:

The spot that I have hunted the past 3 seasons, the birds have roosted in the same area in all seasons.

Most of the time they roost in the same area over in my NE haunts no matter what season it is.  They will have multiple roost locations so not necessarily in the same tree.

They stick to their same haunts assuming they don't get pushed out.  As many have said... they do have multiple spots.  They may be in A one night, B the next, back to A, and then in C but they use the same areas over and over again.

yeah allot of the bird will use the same tree for years unless they are bumped. but they do move around a bit from tree to tree usally aroubd the same area. but if you spooke them usally they will leave that area.

Well said.  Just hope they don't go to D and E, because it might be a county or two away!
