This is actually the first Shoulder mount Bear I have gotten to do in my 12 years of Taxidermy. I have done numerouse 1/2 mounts and lifesize but never a shoulder. This is a big bear, the largest shoulder mount form I could get out of research. This is a great option for rubbed out bears like this one was or even a "Cheaper" option (about 1/2 of the price of a rug) for people that want to save some money. Anyway , enjoy the pics! Keep me in mind you spring bear hunters ;)

Thanks for the compliments. I cant wait to do another shoulder mount bear. They might be one of my favorites to do know. If I get lucky and kill a rubbed out bear this year I know what I will be doing with him ;)

It looks ALIVE! Nice work. I hadn't thought about the rubbed out coat. This is a good solution.
Just curious. Why is a rug so expensive? I would figure there is more time in a mount.

There is WAY more time and work involved in the rugging process. The rug is a long draawn out process, a shoulder mount is alot simpler. Id say you have 4 times the ammount of time spent on a rug over a shoulder mount and also a bigger expense for me on the pocket book for a rug.

Love the mount Charlie!!! He's got the same color phase as a bear I got a few years ago. I was debating a shoulder because he had thinning arm pits and chest/stomach but ended up going with a rug because the color on his back and he ended up turning out really good thanks to my taxi. I might have to go with a shoulder next time, looks great

Thanks for the explanation. I knew you had extra cost for the backing, etc. but was surprised about the time. Then again I have never tanned anything other than a few rattle snakes and a mouse hide.

Well figure you are dealing with a lifesize skin versus a shoulder mount skin, you got 6 times the hide your working with on with a rug. I'll break down the cost for ya:
6 1/2 foot bear:
150 ft = 975.00 $525.00
Rug Shoulder mount
Rug shell 150.00 Shoulder form 48.00
Tanning 150.00 tanning 38.00
Hours 18 ish (660.00) Hours 8 (296.00)
Misc materials 100.00 Misc Mat. 10.00
$1060.00 (I lost money ) $392.00 (Profit $133.00)
Does that help a little more ;)

Yes thanks for the info.
Looks like you Taxi's work awfully hard for your dough!! I sure appreciate looking at all the mounts though. I really liked the one when you showed it in the various stages. For us not in the "know" that was very informative. Thanks!

It takes you 18 hours to do a Bear Rug? :yike: You must be getting slower in your old age! :chuckle:

Bump for customer with a badly rubbed bear that wanted a shoulder mount. I think it a good option to go with for rubbed bears. As you can see , this one was rubbed very bad but still made a nice shoulder mount.
-
LOOKS GOOD !

I would definetly be interested.... if i can kill one.
-
Once again Charlie, excellent work. Now I have to kill something worth mounting, so I can give you some business.
