Title: Springfield XDm/XD
Post by: jackelope on April 22, 2010, 02:27:11 PM
I saw that a few of the folks on here have these pistols...just curious what everyone thinks about them. I'm considering a Springfield XDm .40 caliber rig. Looking for input as far as pro's and cons.
Thanks folks.

I personally have the xd 45 compact.  I absolutely love the pistol it is very accurate and I really like the safety system on it.  I also like the small clip for when I am packing but can put in the 13 round clip if I want to.  Have put about 300 rounds through it and have not had one problem...

Great gun.

I ended up with a Glock 23 instead. I shot about the same with both but the Glock felt better in my hand.

I saw that gun too. I like it with the large mag but it was too small with the smaller mag. I've got big hands and am not too comfortable with the shorter grip/small mag. With the big mag you might as well buy the full size. The only difference is a 1/2" in the barrel. That gun is the most comfortable that I looked at in a SC size.

I bought the XDm in 9mm. Love it, fantastic weapon. But apparently alot of guys here think the 9mm is not deadly enough so I will need to get two of them.

I've got the same gun. I tried the XD and a Glock 19 on a rental range. The Glock was ok,but I shot the XD better.

If I can't get it done with 17 rounds of 124gr +P, I ain't gonna get it done with a .40 or .45 either.

I have an XDM in 9mm. Great gun and the 9mm caliber is inexpensive option for shooting. For the price you can't go wrong

I had an XD-40 sub compact for about a year. It  was my first carry auto loader and it was a great gun. It shot, carried, and fit my hand well. I sold it to move up to a 10mm Glock 29 and regretted it. The Glock didn't fit my hand nearly as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another XD. I recommend them to everyone.

Just got an XDM 40 for my 50th b-day.
Can't wait to shoot it.
I have noticed the mag release is stiffer with a loaded mag vrs an empty mag. Somethin I will be watching for improvement on operation.

With the +P ammo the 9mm has a 90-91% first shot stopping sucess rate
40: About 94%
45: Also about 94%

Yeah, you might want to get two of them :)

this is why you double tap when carrying a 9mm  :)

yes i noticed that as well but with many hundreds of rounds down range it is very easy now, also if you put only 15 in it is not as bad its when you have 16 in it that it does get a bit stiffer when it is new. you will get er broke in. the best and only semi i will own.

Kinda what I'm expecting. Thanx for the info.
That 16th round is a beotch to load in a new mag.

Got to shoot both new guns today.

The Tauraus 6605( new warranty replacement to my old 66) shoots well after adjusting the sights a bit.

The XDM shot well. The mags loosened right up.

I was shooting left when we started. If I put pressure below the slide with my left thumb, I can shoot about a 2 inch group at 20 yrds. Otherwise everything went left.

So Is this left thumb pressure thing common with a semi auto?

Am I rolling on the trigger pull?  Do i need to learn a new grip?

Me thinks I need more ammo and practice.

you might be torque in it a bit but the front sight can be moved left or right you don't want to have to try to do somthing to make the gun shoot well.

It's the long trigger pull that is getting you, trigger jobs are probably the #1 upgrade people do on the xd/xdm's, http://www.pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=05SSC (http://www.pistolgear.com/proddetail.php?prod=05SSC)  that right there is a pretty decent trigger kit and there are a ton of aftermarket upgrades available on that site.

Practice will help but practice + trigger kit will really shine.

Owner of an XD Tactical in .45 acp. Smooth shooting, dead on accurate, hold lots of rounds. Way to big for carry but I never got it with that intention. Super easy to break down for at home or field carry. Love it. Also own a Kimber Custom II, a stock Springfield 1911 in .45. It is much better than the Springfield and on par with my Kimber.

No thanks, want to stick to 45 and a compact. Thanks for the offer though!

Ammo - Cheap Walmart stuff. Winchester target and Winchester personal protection. Good stuff and affordable IMO.

i shoot a lot of reminton 180jhp-fmj's for just plinking but my personal protection loads that i carry in it are the new pdx1 they are a bit spendy but i have done a lot of bullet testing and realy like the way they preform i think they are about 22.00 for 20 shells kinda funny when one box fills one mag and the chamber :chuckle:

no prob i love the serpa holster but unless i have a jaket or sweater on its very hard to carry with it unless i want to just carry open. make sure you check the size mine is the size 5 inside the pants with the smaller 3.8 xdm you will need a litttle smaller holster good luck
