You have better odds of being struck by lightning today than ever getting drawn for mountain goat in this state. Take a look at the total number of permits available and the total number of applications and you'll see what I mean.

I don't think that making deer and elk hunting a permit only situation would be a good idea at all. I mean there should always be units open to hunt for deer and elk that are not special permit only. I can not imagine a hunting season where if you do not draw a permit you don't get to hunt. That would be just nuts. That would be a close to communism as it gets as far as hunting goes. The system works and has for quite some time. Sure it needs a little tweaking here and there but thats just due to how WDFW works or should I say doesn't work sometimes.
