Have a great time. I LOVE Montana. Keep us posted on your progress!!! I'll try to keep the river company while your gone. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
ya it should be pretty cool... the school will take i think 6 or 8 people per session but i found out theres only gonna be 3 in my class and there are three instructors so maybe ill learn something :chuckle:
-
thats really cool..enjoy and have a blast
-
Awesome. Good luck buddy. I know you'll enjoy it.
-
Take lots of notes and video if you can. Have fun!
-
Right on man!! Have a good time.
-
Thats awsome,Good luck  Let us know how good the school is?
-
Well so far so good... one guy didnt make it so its just two of us with two instructors :) Just in my first day ive learned that there is a lot of hide prepping to do for a good mount, I wish i wouldve learned to sew before i got here! :chuckle: I figured out that theres a lot of different ways to potentially cut/poke yourself doing taxidermy :chuckle:

You'll figure out how not to poke yourself eventually...........NOT :chuckle: Your prep work can make or break your mount. Did you wet up that Blacktail cape yet?
-
ya I did that today and am gonna mess with it tommorrow although it didnt have like really anything to fix on it unlike the bull im doing which i sewed on all day today :chuckle: I didnt know there could be so many little holes on an the ear seams! which forms did you say you liked the best for blacktails? i couldnt remember...
-
Id use a lancaster blacktail form out of reaserch. I think that cape will go on the 220 series if I remember right. That cape would probably fit one of the McKenzie 6 3/4 blacktail forms also. Thats a nice form .
-
ya my instructor is really high on mckenzie and there is one it will fit but there was limited poses... like only a basic left and right if i remember right... If he hasnt ordered the one we looked at for it today ill check out research... thanks
-
Thats all your gona get with a descent blacktail form, left or right semi sneak ;). The other reasearch form are junk. The only one worth a darn in Research is the lancaster and it is just OK. Id go with the McKenzie on that cape, especially for a first mount ;)
-
first shoulder mount
-
gotta post these one by one for some reason
-
its not done yet but coming along :)
-
The other reasearch form are junk.
That is a sore subjet I really don't like to talk about. :chuckle:
-
why what happened?
-
lookin good
-
why what happened?
To make a long story short I started mounting a deer at 11am. By 10pm I was so frustrated and pissed off that I pulled the mount apart and cut the head off the Reasrch form I was using and than off a McKenzie form I had and put the McKenzie head on the Reasurch form. Than started pretty much all over with the mounting. Didn't get done until 4am. I just had to buy one one of those forms and try it out. It was just one of those days. :chuckle: The heads just suck!
I will probably buy another one here in the next month or 2 and try it again. Everytime you try something you learn something. I think I have figgured out what I need to do with the next one. With out having to cut it off. :chuckle:
-
Thanks for the pics bowtech!! Lookks good !
Mich.............ah never mind , no comment :chuckle: :chuckle:
OK maybe one comment, I told you those heads were junk :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Bowtech721,
The black tail mount is looking great, sounds like a blast wish i could have gone there with you, looks a lot better than the books i have been reading at college. If you get a chance you should post some pictures of that bear you were telling me about.
-
I dont really have any other than this one but you can kinda get the idea about the color... it"ll make a pretty cool rug other than its rubbed a bit
-
few pics of my open mouth bull in progress...
-
looking awesome brother...keep the pics coming...lookin great
-
Michele, The only thing good about research is the quick mailing and cheaper mailing charge thats about all I can think of right off the top of my head
-
That Bull, is looking really good, keep it up, and keep posting pictures. Make sure you pay attention and take good notes, because i don't want my taxidermist falling short when it comes to my mounts ;)

Any new updates bowtech?
-
ya its going good! Ill try to post some more pics in a bit... havent got a ton of pics of my own as the instructors are taking them that they will give us on a disc at the end. I will downsize some and post them up! Spending too much time on the river after class to mess with the pics too much :chuckle:
-
Lifesize bear im working on. I almost had a heart attack when some of his hair started falling out but its under control now :chuckle: This form had to be modified quite a bit to fit... i think i cut like 3 inches of length out and like all the legs were WAY to big. Im glad i got to learn how to make it work though.
-
This is the only pic I have of the bobcat i did. The finish work isnt done but its coming along :) I mounted a pheasant to go with it.
-
A little lunch break trout action :chuckle:
-
Looks like your having a blast and learning  Keep the pics coming
