Title: Mudflow anyone?
Post by: Fastass350 on April 27, 2010, 12:55:04 PM: Anyone headed to St Helens this weekend? Anyone ever gone and had any luck? I was thinking of going, but after reading that WDFW picks up what they can to discourage the early birds from sneaking in, I'm leary.

They are going to collect them for the sale in a few years for the Oak Creek feeding station, How much of this money comes back here for the St. Helens herd I wonder?? Alot of the horns end up at workers homes as well , this I know for sure. If they were going to sell them they should do it here and not in F^&* Yakima.

Anyway , sorry for the rant. Its not a bad spot if you were early , this late good luck. And dont get caught.

I would have to wonder the same thing, and agree that they should stay local, be sold local, and the proceeds stay local, to somehow support this herd. Pure BS. I honestly think they don't have much right to be in there picking them up if we as the general public can not. If they are trying to cut down on the amount of people that enter before the 1st, then they should patrol it and issue a citation, and gain revenue there. >:(

I wouldn't be excited to be hiking from the top to get passed up by a horse or an atv. If I even go the the flat, maybe I'll hump the hillsides, but just in case.

Like fishing, everyone goes to the holes you can see the fish and skips the areas where they lay deep, outta sight.

What used to be a real treat or just plain icing on the day is now a full on obsession controlled now, to some extent by laws and greed. Those poor animals now have so much pressure on them year round from all sides and up and down. It's a miracle they survive at all. And if anyone thinks groups of people slinking around on winter range or early spring isn't causing stress to those critters needs to think again. I've been told of guys in the winter range of the Wind River unit combing the hills carring 5 gallon buckets full of deer sheds. I just don't get it. Maybe it does'nt matter that I don't. Just couldn't stand it anymore not to give my 2 pennies. :dunno: :dunno:

Yes I feel the same , patroll it like Oak Creek and keep every one out, as much as possible. The state should not be allowed to pick em up through the year. And yes again , the auction should be local if they are going to collect em and see how much $$ is for this herd .

I've been seeing 25-150 elk per day from the Forest Learning Center. Bulls have nubbins to 8" velvet spikes already. A few people have been finding sheds on the side hills. Lots of people expected this weekend.
