Tonight I feed my best bud Jake for the last time. I will be putting him down tomorrow at 1630. He has had a great 16 year life. We have been through a lot together. Broken bones, multiple moves, and tons of other ups and downs. This is the first time I have had to do this. I know it's for the best but I'm really having a hard time accepting the fact that he is going to be gone. :'( I'm going to miss my bud he really was my best friend. The picture is of him on our other dogs first birthday. He always was a goofy dog and this picture shows it. R.I.P Jake you made my life a joy and I'll miss you.

So sorry to hear that. I know what you're going through as I just had to put my 15 year old lab down. They get to be such a big part of your life. hang in there and best wishes

Sorry about that, must be tough.
-
My entire life has been filled with labs, and when you see them as a puppy chewing up the furniture you never think this day will come. I'm really sorry for your loss but you deserve a lot of credit. I have seen a lot of people keep their dogs around because they can't let go. Best wishes to you and your buddy.

Very sorry for your loss Cory. :(

Keep the good memories close. We will be facing this day soon too. It is the toughest decision we dog owners face with our best friends.
We'll keep you and Jake in our thoughts Cory.

So Sorry to hear of your loss...... but I've sure you have alot of loved memories together.. Maybe this will help a little,
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

It's like loosing a family member! Sorry, but he will be in dogy heaven looking after you!

sorry to hear the news. Man, he looks exactly like my dog I had growing up. White faced, white chest and toes. God speed.. Hap

16 years is a long time for any dog, certainly a dog with any mass. The fact that you realize the time has come adds to your credibility as a pet owner. No, it is not easy, and I feel for you and your situation. Sounds as though you shared some of the best times of your life, and you know the best times of his life ;), Take that with you as you let him move on to the place where he will not hurt anymore and he has the energy to do what he loves.
-
Sorry to hear, bud...my old boy will be 10 this year and I know the time is coming in the next few years...
remember the good times.
-
Well it's done I held him in my arms as he took his last breath. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. It was time he was ready. We found a great place that over looks one of our hunting spots and buried him there. Now he can be part of our hunts forever. Bye Jake, I love you!
-
I'm sorry man, I'm sure that was a very difficult thing to do. I'll be in the same position before too long.
Not that it will make it any easier, just try to remember that you did what was best for your friend.
-
Tough to let a good dog go. Best to you and your gang, Cory.
-
Cory, been there....
We miss ours every day....been gone two years. After we put ours down, we made a little diary on our computer desktop where family members could write in it daily and share how we were each feeling... Really love to go back and read the diary. Hang in there.

I have avoided this thread. I put Aurora down Dec 19 2009. Saddest day ever, still feel her with me on walks.
Hope you get another pup soon. I know when I kick the bucket I'll leave a dog behind for my children or grand kids to care for. I love my dogs and from the sounds of it so do you.
God Bless dogs and their owners
Scott
