Thinking of getting a Remington R15 with a Nikon Coyote scope for predator hunting. looking for the pros and cons of this setup. any info would be great.
-
the r-15 is a very nice rifle i bought the r-25 because i already have several ar-15 i got the r-25 in 7mm-08 i have shot the r-15's and have nothing bad to say about them bushmaster one of my fave brands makes the r-15 and dpms makes the r-25 bushmaster/remington/dpms are all owned by the same comapny. you can't go wrong with the gun. the scope i am not a fan of at all i was taught aim small miss small when i learned to shoot and just putting the circle over the body of the yote don't work for me very well and the ones i have shot on paper have not grouped well not the gun but the scope without a center of aim you are trying to match the circle in the same spot each time. so yes to the gun no to the scope :twocents:

I own a Remington r15. They are a great gun. Mine is the most accurate gun I own. Never had a problem with it.
-
mines a tack driver and with my reloads real easy on the fur. go for it you'll love the gun. I'm not sold on the coyote scope though. i thought about switching but i just cant get used to the circle in the center of the crosshair

What caliber R-15 do you guys have? 204, 223?
-
223
-
223. and its the long one too. don't see much use for a shortened hunting rifle.
-
Did you consider the 204 when you aquired your R-15? I don't have a 223 or 204 so was just wondering why you chose the 223.
-
I already owned a .204 rifle for one.
For another I bought the .223 because I use it for a coyote gun and it has a little more effective range than the .204
Also if I decided to sell it a .223 would probably be easier to sell because it is more popular.
-
i just really like the round. i can get a little heavier bullets that are effected less by the wind and theres lots of reloading options

That makes sense. Thanks.

I love mine, very accurate and the Nikon Coyote special is an awesome scope and compliments the R-15 very nicely. If you do get the R-15 I do suggest getting some scope mounts that are a bit higher than the ones on my rifle. It can be difficult to get to the charging handle if the scope is lower on the mounts.

The 204 is a fine choice in a yote, bobcat or any other small varmits. With 39 or 40gr bullets the round is very capable taking yotes out to 400-500 range. You also get to watch the critters drop or explode in your scope. :twocents:

If you're looking for a new scope mount for that R15, look into getting the Burris P.E.P.R. From what I've heard they work real well with the AR-15 style rifles. It's what I'm going to get for mine.

I have the 3-9x40 Coyote Special in Brush Camo on my S&W MP15 and so far I like it. Have only shot it at the range and can get in tight pretty consistently. It does take some getting used to with the circle though and no crosspoint, but I've seemed to pick it up pretty easily. Plus I really like the look with the ARD KillFlash device on it. (and looks is #1 for me, screw how it works! :P) When I bought it I actually thought it was a rangefinding deal, like if this circle fits on the animal, its this far away, if that one fits its this far and so on - but that is not the case. May have went with a new Redfield Revoulution had I known otherwise.

That is a very nice looking setup. I wish my MP15 was camo , but I have it wrapped with McNett cling tape in Mossy Oak Brush. Still planning on getting the Howa Axiom in Kings Camo so then I'll finally have my camo varmint rifle - when I finally get the dough to pay for it!

Ended up buying the Smith and Wesson M&P 15 this weekend. Man what a shooter! Just have iron sights right now. Hitting the end of a Pepsi can @ 200 yards 10 out of 10 times! Haven't figured out what scope i want to get yet.
-
if you can shoot that good at 200 yards with open sites why would you need a scope. i would have to see that. you should try out for the olympics

Damn I dont think I could SEE a pepsi can at 200yds!! :o Good choice on the MP15 - I LOVE mine, such a pretty looking rifle! Where did you get it from and how much did it cost ya? I bought mine from Code4 in Bothell and I want to say I paid $840, maybe $820??, (well I WANT to say a paid $100 but that would be a lie!!) I'd have to double check the receipt to be sure though. Did you get the 5 free mag special deal with it too? That was going on when I got mine but it took like 4 months to finally get the mags!
-
Bought it at sportsman's or what ever its called now. 975.00 and no i only got 1 mag. sounds like you got a lot better deal than i did. enjoy it, i know i will enjoy mine!
