I know how to fish and have my own gear. The only problem is I don't have a boat. :bash: I caught a 42 lb'er 27th place last year, $160.00 fish. I'm looking for someone with an open seat for the Derby this year. I will help with gas and will clean all the fish.
-
I'm trying really hard to get ready for the derby myself, I hear they have really been catching the fish lately and I'm not ready :( I should be ready by then though but don't know yet if I'll have an open seat, One thing you can be sure of is that you won't have to clean any fish if you went with me !!! :bash:
Not really we did really good in 05 with 3rd (89lb) and like 26th (53lb) or something which was nice to finally go fishing for free for once LOL !!!
Hope the weather is good, I'm hoping to get down to the west end and I hate crossing that Elwah bar when its nasty !!!
-
I marked the spot with my GPS last year, it's about 3 miles out. We caught a 48 lb'er the next weekend after the derby there last year. :dunno:
-
I don't even have a GPS this year, I sold it with my other boat a few years ago so I just have to guess this year LOL !!! :o
-
I have a boat and willing to travel to you, when is the derby? Maybe a joint venture?

The tides sucks that week end :bash:
-
Looks like the kicker is going to get a real work out buckin tide !

Isn't that memorial day weekend? Man I would love to fish in the derby. But I'm with you Ben, no boat. Hmmm. Just thought of something. The brother and sister in law are getting stationed in Guam. They are going to be storing there boat in P.A. for us to use at the cabin. Since they will be bringing the boat up that weekend maybe I can talk them in to fishing the derby. When do you have to buy your ticket's by?
-
Last year was the first Derby for me, I bought my ticket the day before the the derby. I hooked up with a guy going out by himself in his boat. :IBCOOL:
-
Just curious what your setup looks like . I dont fish in Wa . anymore , just AK . Whats the best bait for you guys ?
-
Spreader bar, leader w/2 hooks and bait.
-
how big of a boat do you think you would need to fish in this area
-
Jimmy,
I see guys out here with 15' boats all the time. I would prefer at least an 18' boat and pay attention to the wind.
-
I've seen guys out there in 12ft Lunds! Millpond day and I still thought they were stupid! I'd say 17 ft with 14" of freeboard in about minimum... and watch the weather extremely carefully.
I've spent lots of time out there in 50 ft steel commercial boats, and when it blew up I wished I was someplace else! (It can come up in a matter of 30 minutes too.)
-
4 to 6 ft wind waves today. 8 ft tides. 3 buts in the boat all under 15 ibs. 68 lb on top and 34 on bottom. hopefully we will nail it tomorrow. ;)
-
Was out as well and got a 30# halibut just shy of the board, ended up 5 miles east of the spit and it was a real bugger getting back to the boat launch through that rough assed Crap ! Made it back battered but not defeated ! Hit er again tomorrow !
-
Good luck tomorrow boys. I was sitting up here looking out at ya. Thinking man I wish I was out there fishing but, man I'm glad I'm not out in that crap. Looks like the weather will be nice for you. Post some pictures of the fish your getting would ya. If you couldn't tell I couldn't talk anyone in to going. :bash:
-
It's 3:30 am. I feel like I'm still on the boat. :o The forecast looks good today. 1ft or less wind waves. :IBCOOL: It will be combat Halibut fishing today, only the die-hards were out yesterday. :chuckle:

Way to go Robo- Get a couple more and move up on that wall..... Must be those sinkers.. lol
-
It was a DOG FISH DAY :bash: No butt's on our boat. I heard one in the 80's took first. The dog fish were so bad we had two come up, one on each hook. :bash:
-
That is too bad, was hoping to hear you guys slam them and get some funds from the prize board...
-
Yeah, nothing on the board for us, I was reeling up a halibut that would have been on the board for sure but my buddy had a doggie on and it got wrapped around my line and eventually just broke my line, he felt really bad but whatever that's my luck !
I did catch one 25# for the bbq so alls well that ends well and we had fun, oh I caught a skate as well POS ! :bash:

Went out to the rockpile and lost all the 32oz ones in no time as the tide was rippin out there 3.5mph that was a workout !

We started at Coyote Bank, Lost my gear w/200 ft of line. Then lost another 200 ft, using 48 oz's. Had to realty watch your pole and just touch the bottom w/pole in hand out there. We moved in between there and 31-36, then finished at the 31-36. Dog fish the whole way. :bash: Fun times.

I call that 31-36 bank the Bermuda triangle, since nothing nice ever happens to me out there in fact everything bad happens so I avoid that place like the plague !

Ya, we should have stayed with Fresh Water Bay and the Elwha. :bash:

We got ours right out front, I heard most came from close in the shore not the banks though !
-

Wasn't whiskey creek out of bounds ? :spank_butt:

No low point was the boundry and we were way inside that. It was last year I heard

We fished Freshwater hard both days and came up with a 37 on saturday (that was 24 at end of day) and an 18 about 1:45 yesterday. We have been doing great at Freshwater all year but just one bite each day of the derby. It was frustrating because the derby was real win-able or at least place-able with any kind of reasonable fish and we just couldn't get in front of one. We knew from the past unless it was a blowout the 37 would never last as you usually have to get one at least in the lower 40's to make the ladder. It was by FAR the greatest Halibut fishing for #'s of fish caught in the area this year and I have been fishing there for years. I just hope the "quota" deal doesn't shorten the season any more then it is next year because so many lbs of Halibut came in this year. Looking forward to next year........Les

:bash: :bash: Whiskey creek is one of my favorites and I thought it was out of bounds like every other year or I would have been there :bash:
oh well doesn't sound like it was worth the run down there !!!
Sorry bout the ass whoopin !! :chuckle:

Well I didn't fare too bad :IBCOOL:
-
What did it pay? Or did you have a ticket? Nice fish either way
-
That would be the winner
-
that was the winner or that would have been the winner. If it was the winner that is sweet
-
*It was the winner, all 88 pounds of it.

Best $40 investment you will ever make
