was just curious if i were to use practice broadheads in strawbails, would that tear em up pretty quick like a normal target?

bails are bad, arrow punches right through them and tears the fletching right off.

I use a cardboard box filled with shrink wrap and never had a problem shuts a 310 ft per second arrow right down

Instinct try the broadhead G 5 Montec.

I make no adjustments to my pins all the way out to 40 yards.

just curious why you have to change your sights between fieldtips and broadheads

Practice with the field points and switch to broadheads before hunting season.

I have two sets of broad heads, one set for practicing, and one set for hunting (use the same set's though).

I couldn't get the montecs to fly worth a damn but the shuttle-t locks fly exactly like my fp's.

x2 but i shoot out to 100 yards in practice "never at a animal" and they fly the same and i have shot about 20 brands of heads and my montecs are the only heads that i have had that result with.

Lower your rest 1/32 of an inch, and move it to the right the same amount.  You should not have to resight for broadheads.

Haven't tried the montecs but I love my shuttle t locks.  Partly for this reason, tried some muzzy's and some cabela's both wouldn't match what I had sighted in for my fp.  Switched to the t locks and haven't had a problem.

Tune your bow and use the right spined arrow and there should be very little change.  That being said there will always be some difference..  Using a Hooter Shooter and a dozen .001 correctly spined arrows and field points will normally yield 9 arrows on average that will hit in a 2" group at 50 yards.  Put BH's on those arrows that are fliers and you have a 6"-12" difference.  Someone that says that they have all their arrows BH or field points hitting identicle is not all together the truth.  Especially at longer distances.  But you can get them in the accptable range.

Now for Montecs.  Yes they are a great BH, strong and fly like FP's.  The problem is that 90% of the archers that use them do not get them sharp enough to create good blood trails.  They kill the animal but there is very little blood even on good shots.  I saw a bull last year that was shot at 2 yards right through the heart with a G5.  No blood trail.  Granted he only went 40 yards, what little blood there was was quickly soaked up by the fur.  When we examined the heart it barely left a whole it actually pushed the arteries out of the way instead of slicing through them.  Almost an identicle shot placement on a cow that day with a shuttle t produced a massive amount of blood and a huge hole through the heart slicing everything in its path.

As for straw bails.  Unless they are compressed at 2000 psi they are no good for stopping arrows and definately not for BH's.

With these faster bows, you almost can't use hay or straw bails anymore.  The arrows are nearly passing through with the speed and the tear the crap out of your fletching.  It adds up at about $.75 cents per fletching if not more, unless you get them in bulk and do them yourself.

If you get a chance give the Sonics a try. They fly the same as my field tips.
