has any one ever used one of these on a bighorn or a tc. was looking at trying one on my bighorn. any problems with the screws aligning with the holes. seems like a cool sight i looked at cabelas it does not come up on there website. cheaper than dirt carries them. the front globe probably gives a good sight picture but i have not had a chance to look at one. need input if you have used this sight on your smokepole. thanks
-
i have had one on my bighorn for 2 years and i love it...
-
yes i have them on both my muzzleloaders we had a thread going about them right before muzzle season this year. i love them the 2 fiber optics in the rear ghost ring make lining up the fron pin very fast and gives you another reference point instead of just a pin in the front and a black hole in the back i used to run the williams on my t/c and cva but bought one for the t/c and my groups realy shrank at longer ranges so now i have one on both. buy one you will love it also the front pin is smaller then most standard front pins and does not take up so much of the animal at 90+ yards like most and it is super bright and comes with a shade you can adjust the brightness. i took it off on mine because it seems always glomy when the smoke pole season roles around :chuckle:
-
Hey carpsniperg2, is this the one you use?
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/55463-1.html (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/55463-1.html)
-
yep thats it
-
That's the TG958G. They also have the TG958X that is similar but seems to have the standard pin on the front rather than the globe, but both have the ghost ring in back. Actually if I am looking at it correctly the X model has interchangeable sights on the back so you can switch between standard two-pin or ghost ring.
So you prefer the the G series with the globe versus the pin in the front then?

-
if any of you have one on a gun close to graham I would love to look at them,my blackdiamond would like one Im pretty sure
-
yep i just walked up and checked on the empty package and they both are the tg958g those are what i have on both my guns and love and will use nothing else. i like the globe because it helps foucus in on a smaller part of the animal instead of just a pin on the whole animals chest and if you are lucky it will block out the horns "depending on the range and size of the rack :chuckle:" and like i said the 2 extra spots "pins" in the ghost ring makes it very nice.
maybe i will throw one of mine in if i can make it up to the gathering this year for you rasbo. and yes your t/c will love it mine does and my elkhorn does.
-
Thanks for the help, carpsniperg2!
-
no prob always like to help were/when i can i have about 20 converts from this site that have switched or are switching this year to this site and everyone loves it. i would not recomend it if i did not fully trust it and feel it was the best sight i have ever used.
-
I tried a Lyman peep last year but I didn't get the groups I would have liked. Probably just need to spend more time practicing than anything.
-
yeah i went from williams to the truglo and my groups shrank by about 40% i was amazed the extra reference points and smaller pin in the front and the globe front and brightness of the pin all made for a better sight, then what i was using. i hated trying to concentrate on centering the pin on the williams in the middle of a black hole when you should be looking at the front sight and at ranges past about 80 yards if that pin is not centered it can make a big diffrence with the 2 pins in the back on the ghost it makes for a quick reference and then faster foucus on the front sight. that is what has helped me the most and it is nice when you are looking threw the sights and the front pin does not take up the whole animal at 100 yards :yike: not very pin point to me and i hated that now i can look at a smaller area on the deer out to about 140-150 compared to about 80-90 with the standard front sight on the black diamond
-
Sounds like the same problem I was having. I think I will buy one of these and if I like it I will buy a couple more for my other muzzleloaders.
-
 best way to do it and they ain't to bad for around 50.00
-
just got mine from optics planet for $49.99 shipped.
-
I just placed an order too. Found it at Crossfire Outdoors for $42.99 plus $2.95 shipping for a total of $45.94. Took me a while to find one cheaper than Optics Planet.
-
yeah that is a very good deal
-
I might have to invest in one.
-
you will be happy you did
-
Paitiently waiting for mine to arrive. ;)
-
I'm totally on the MUZZ bandwagon this year boys!!! My Black Diamond hasn't even arrived and I've already ordered this sight!!! Anybody want to buy the fiber optics that come stock w/the B.D.??
-
:chuckle: well that makes about 30-35 converts :chuckle: you guys will love them and if you are switching sights you will see your groups shrink  and if you are just starting out, well i feel you are starting out with the best muzzleloader sight out there for us open sighted shooters
-
I had these and didn't like them. I just can't seem to adjust my eyes to 3 green dots.
changed them out for the Williams peep sights and had way better accuracy.
-
Havent shot with mine yet but only installed the rear sight, gonna try it like that first :dunno:m Mark
-
thats intresting, first person i have heard of not liking them.
-
I would sure like to look through this set up. I put the Williams Ghost Ring on my Bighorn last year and really like it. Does the globe act like a peep on the front also?
-
yes you got it right lowedog narrows down what you are aiming at as well  if i make it to the get together this year at rasbos place i will bring one of mine for everyone to checkout
-

This is kind of like looking through the sight,
-
that is alot like the glode sight but a little diffrent with the full green ring istead od the 2 green dots looks nice
-
Ya that looks better to me, Page 5 on this section has a pic of the williams version I like. The last pic of the tru glow is that with the front hood Off?
-
We were debating which direction to mount the rear sight... I'm guessing it's screws to the right as you look down the barrel... I'm really new at this.
-
the taller end goes forward with the slant towards the butt of the rifle.
-

The front hood is not removable on mine. Mark
-
im mounting up this tru glow globe and have a few questions.. seems like i want the rear site mounted infront of the breach same place as the stock dovetail is that right? Also the front sites radius seems to be a little bigger than the barrel on my bighorn so there is a small gap between the site and barrel that dont seem right!! Do I have to shim this thing I dont like the idea of shims any suggetions thanks for any help!! Happy fathers day to all dads!!!!!!!!! ;)
-
yes you want the back sight were the stock sight was. i think the kit came with a little black shim in the package for that reason i have not had to use it but if memory serves right the kit came with some just incase it did not fit tight.
-
Ill check on the shims carpsniper your right this site looks bad ass cant wate to shoot again thanks again!! ;) ;) ;)
-
I think those shims are for a dovetail applacation Ill figure something out got a friend how can machine it for me was hoping i didnt have to do that but i do want a solid fit ;)
-
yeah play with it a little but they are bad ass for sure i love those sites my group size shark about 50% on both guns when i put these sights on them i put mine on my elkhorn and t/c blackdiamond xr and they went right on no prob i have a friend that has a bighorn and i never heard of him having to mess with it but get it tight and you will be very happy
-
I think those shims are for a dovetail applacation Ill figure something out got a friend how can machine it for me was hoping i didnt have to do that but i do want a solid fit ;)
Yes you need a solid fit to the barrel, if you shim it make sure the shim is made of Solid material that wont shrink in cold weather or expand in heat. After machining coat the open alloy with a clear sealer or some other type of thin coating to keep it from oxidizing as moisture will get under it.
-
thanks whitelightning I actually found a dowel a bit smaller than my barrel and sanded it with some 600 wet paper and got it to fit like a glove I put bore butter under the site when I mounted it. clear laquir of somesort sounds like the way to go ..Mabe finger nail polish ...What do you think? thanks again this site is sweet so helpful with questions!!!!!!!! ;)

I would remove the bore butter and apply like you said clear nail polish or even a good coating of wax. Just need something to keep out the moisture. The dowel trick works real good to reshape sites.
-
finger nail polish it is!! I wish I lived in an area where I could pull off a few shots from the front porch!! I bet my neighbors around lake meridian would love that!! :bdid: Oh well Ill get out this week sometime hopefuly.
-
Will this site work on a t/c firehawk and wheres the best place to buy them? Thanks
-
cabelas use to sell them if you look threw this thread i think there is a few links on places to get them. glad you got it all mounted up nice.
bowhunterforever it should it fits most all guns there are 2 models so you will have to look wich one is made for your gun but they do fit most t/c's

crossfire sports.com 49 dollars total with shipping
-
I picked this sight up at Sportco on Saturday. My father's day present to myself. :IBCOOL: I need to install it this week and will try it out this coming weekend.
-
you will love it they are a great sight i have lots of converts to this sight and never heard anything bad but "i don't like the all green dots" you will like it post pics of your results
-
i picked up a true glo red/green dot scope last week. through it on my pump 30-06 for my fiance to use for bear. went oout yesterday and sighted it in. i was very impressed. sighted it in for 100 since its 0x magnification. got that shooting spot on. then just goofing around we found an old tropicana jug. we set that out at close to around 175 yards. we were hiting it 4 out 5 shots. we though we were missing it because it was falling over, but could see the splash in the dirt behind it. we walk back out to it and could see about 15 holes through it that werent the before. in my oppinion its a great sight. only spent 65$ on it. (i got a gift card to dicks, or i never woulda shopped there).
-
I got mine today. these look like their gonna be sweet . I ordered from crossfire.com on Monday & got them today. $49.94 total with Priority shipping!
-
Ok, I just installed the sight with a little help from my buddy, I didn't have the right size screwdrivers. This is really cool, I love the rear ghost ring and I can't wait to shoot it this weekend. Today was a busy day, I also took my hunting rifle in to get the safety repaired and I spent over a grand on upgrading my AR courtesy of my woodworking tools i just sold off. :o
-
mark 2 more converts down pretty soon all huntwa will be shooting them :chuckle:
-
A little off topic but, what is your adhesive of choice for securing screws when installing sights?
-
most of the time a little loctight on the threads does the job
-
There's lots of different loctite products now . . .
-
hell i don't know i had the same bottle for about 3 years it will do a lot of screws and i ain't diggin in the shop tonight for it :P :chuckle:
just use super glue :chuckle:
-
LOL. That's what I figured!
-
moose eyes,
Blue locktite if you have it or Super glue. Let me know what you think of the hood, should be good for target but hunting may be a differany story.
-
I didn't use locktite when I installed mine, I might pick up some of that blue stuff just in case. I'll let ya know how it holds up without it tomorrow.
-

fine dont ask me :P you know i am biest i love the sight if you ever get down this way lighting you can shoot one on mine with it. and i love it for hunting because it does narrow down what you are looking at and helps you focus on the vitals and the front pin.

Sheesh carpsniberg2 I did ask you in another post :P. I know Mooseeyes so I know he will give me the crazy scoop. If I get down yer way heck ya we can burn some powder together. I will spoil ya and let ya shoot a White :IBCOOL:
-
will do, i do like white rifles as well. one of the coolest stocks i have ever seen was on a white rifle it was after market but it was sweet as hell
-
Just added the new site being talked about here... Looks good, 2 questions on the black diamond did you put the rear site wear you pulled the old site off? Or futher back? I put mine behind the breach were the back of the scope would mount, this doesn't look right to me. Thanks for any help.
-
yeah it would be goofy back there it goes were the factory sights were infort on the breech plug. they are sweet
-
Lol yeah I knew something was up. That is the location of the back sight on my 2nd black diamond is... it is a williams peep with a ghost ring... that is wear the guy from the Puyallup muzzy shop said to put it. :dunno: I did get a monster bull with that setup last year, but I like this new sight even better with the hood and the brighter and smaller front post. Tnx for the info.
-
no prob glad to help. it is really a sweet setup you will love the smaller pin/brightness/hood/reference points in the back ring. :IBCOOL:
-
Sure wish I could get a look through these sights. Anyone around Wenatchee have them yet?
-
if you ever get around goldendale you can take a peek at mine. if i get to rasbos deal this year i am going to bring it so people can look at the sight.
-
I decided to see what it would look like if i painted the front of the sun shield on the front globe site I painted it white and man it looks sweet. Helps showing the front and rear site are dead center to each other. Cant wate to try it out! the black on black goes blury I think this will help. If not ill clean it off. :hunt2:
-
If you shoulder the rifle correctly the peep is designed to self center. I agree black on black can go blurry but if the front site is not centered when you site down the barrel look to see if its left to right or up and down for center. If it is left to right you are probably slightly twisting the rifle when you bring it up. Up or down and the butt is not the correct height on your shoulder. I had to practice shouldering my rifles to get the picture centered every time. Now I can bring it up ten out of ten times and it is centered. Peeps are awesome practice with them.
-
Will this fit just about any muzzle loader? I just bought and older knight and this sounds like the sight to get.
carl
-
on the package it says it fits knight rifles. I bet the screws will line up you might need to fit it to the barrel sanding with 600 and proper size dowel!

the rifle seems to center pretty good for me when I shoulder it. I thought the white would help at the range when things go blury. Thanks for the advise! It does seem to help holding on center.

yes they will some need to be tweaked a little both my guns black diamond xr and elkhorn did not the nights seem to need a little and there is 2 models out there so i have only used the one maybe the other model is better for nights i am not sure
-
How does this globe install? Screw or taper?
I have a bighorn that has a 1 piece front ramp/sight with 2 screws
-
The front site mounts with 1 screw the back site 2 screws You might need to sand site a little to get it to fit the barrel tigght. I have a big horn also and had to sand a little bit 600 grit wet sand wrap the sand paper around a dowel a bit smaller than your barrel . keep checking it till it fits tight! ;)
-
The barrel on the BH is .85 in diameter. Most sights are made for .875, so some "fitting" is necessary.
Did you put a filler screw into the other hole at the front sight?
-
Carpsmiperg2, you can prob bump your number up to about 45/50 people switching over to these new sights!! :rockin:
Shorthair15, I'm really glad you posted this...and that I found this sight and read this!!
I just saw that sight on MidwayUSA and was thinking about changing my sights and thought this looked like a good sight, but was somewhat wary about them since I was unable to physically look at them. Seeing so much positive feedback on this sight, I'm going to have to place an order, but its so close to the muzzy season that I don't think I'll change it out till next year so that I have the full year to get use to them. Who know, maybe I'll go crazy and put them on as soon as i get them and go shooting! I need to shoot these TMZ's more anyways!! :bfg:
-
:IBCOOL: :chuckle:
so close to muzzle season :dunno: :chuckle: we got till end of sep that is more then enough time. you will love it man i think i need to aplly for pro staff with them as well or maybe get a cut of the sales :dunno: :chuckle: at 50.00 a pop and 45 people thats a lot of money :chuckle:
-

They must have raised there price, I'm ordering them now and they are $45. Still, not a bad investment for accuracy!!
-
ya got that right :IBCOOL:
-
:IBCOOL: I just got my set of sights in on Friday and got them mounted. They really look nice on my rifle and I love the way they line up!!! :IBCOOL:
Mounting was simple, just remove the old one and put the new ones on. I had some trouble with the front sight for I did not have a screwdriver at home that was small enough to fit in through the hole on the top of the front sight. I had to take it into work that evening and use the screwdriver set we had at work. Two of my co-workers laughed at how big the front globe was, but then I had them look through the sight and they both fell in love with it :IBCOOL:.
Today I went shooting and was able to get it in the black at 25 yds with 3 shots with my first shot being almost 18 inches low..as can be expected with new sights. At 50 yards after 2 shots I was again in the black, and I took it out to 100 yds and was on black my first shot, but then fell on and off of black as I was making my adjustments starting off by being dead center to the right by 4 inches. I keep making to large of adjustments :bash:. After my last shot, I was 5 inches to the left and 6 Inches high. Just need to come over to the right and drop about 2 Inches and I'll be set ;)!! I ran out of bullets at the range >:(. I spent all day yesterday driving From Yelm to Federal way looking for TMZ's but everyone is sold out, So I just placed a Barns order and will hopefully have 48 bullets by Friday, and then I need to go shooting some more. Hopefully I can get to where I need to by in my next 5-10 shots then take another 5 shots to make sure I can hold a 5 shot group at 100 yds.
The adjustments are free floating (meaning no clicks) so its easy to under or over adjust the sight, And I did this several times which really sucked for I only started the day with 13 bullets...and now I'm down to Zero remaining.
This is a GREAT sight, and I've already showed it to my hunting partners and a few guys who own muzzle loaders at work and have already sold 5 sets for Truglo, and that only after having them for 3 days :chuckle:....and I'm sure I'll sell more for TruGlo as more and more folks see me with this sight. I'm thinking of perhaps ordering a few more just in case they are discontinued when I go to purchase another muzzle loader.
-
do i get one to ;) glad you like them :IBCOOL:
-
Ok, I can't remember if I updated this post in a while. I had previously added the rear ghost ring but I finally added the globe front sight and I love it. So you can now officially add me to the official tally of converts as well. :)
-
will do :IBCOOL: you will really like them out hunting :IBCOOL: they are sweet as hell!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
36 rounds fired down range and still not tuned in >:(. I was close at one point (one inch low, 4 inches to the left), but now I have to bring it back into 25 yards and start from scratch after trying to make an adjustment to the right. Ideally I'd like to be 3-4 inches high dead center, but I'm having trouble making the adjustments. If I can bring it back to being in the black at 100 yards (with in a 4 inch area of the bull) I'll leave my sights alone until after hunting season to get it fine tuned. Right now I just need it sighted to where I can hunt with it.
Its a great sight other than the adjustment!! I think that the rear sight either needs lines on it so i can see how much I'm moving the sight rather by moving it by feel. I'm going back to the range later this week and Rick (the rangemaster at Evergreen Sportsman Club) is going to help me bring it back in. I should have left it alone after I was "close" at 100 yds.
-
yeah that is the only thing i wish it had was lines to tell how mush it was moved. i mark mine with a pencil then adjust it and erase the mark that it was on and draw a new one. then once my gun is sighted in, i mark it with a perm marker
-
Once I have it sighted in I plan on marking it so if my screws should ever loosen I can simply put it back to where I marked it. Did not think about using a pencil. I have one in my rig and will try it. I was getting really flustered and after throwing 36 rounds down range...I was really getting frustrated and that's when I need to stop shooting.
-
yeah a guy has to moce them a little because it goes a long way and if you don't have the marks its hard to tell how far it was moved. but they key thing is: what did your groups look like? ;)
-
For the price I would expect the site to be properly appointed, as in have an adjustment marking system. Don't bump em in the field !!!!
-
make sure they are tight and mark em. never had one let loose but, if they do just got to line the dots back up and lay them down :IBCOOL:
-
So...I found if you tighten your windage adjustment diffently than your last adjustment it can greatly affect your shot placement >:(. LOL, I've now thrown 68 rounds down range and i'm close. I put up a full side elk target at 100 yds and I was in the kill area every shot. I'll leave it alone for now and stay away from head shots. I'll play with it more next year to get used to the sights and fine tune my shot group. If I can keep a kill shot at a deer at 70 yds and on an elk at 100 yds i'm just fine. Beside, the furthest shot i've EVER taken at a deer or elk has been 80 yds after i switche to muzzy and only 50 yds when I was hunting modern.
Now watch, this will be the year I have a 150 yard show present itself. :chuckle:
-
at least you are putting you time in. a vital shot at 100 yards evertime, will kill them everytime. ;) good luck
-

Man that makes sighting in tough, I would not be able to put up with a site that touchy :bdid:
-
depends on the person. i take about 20 shots with a brand new gun to get sighted in. others less. the new gun i took back took 9 shots to be on target. not the sight ;) the person moving the site :chuckle:
-
Precisely what Carp stated...its the person adjusting the sight ;). I hate adjusting open sights, always have. and i'm a perfectionist which makes it even harder! I really just need to quit being so picky.
