Excellent work John on the eye ring. A lot of people have difficulty on that. The whole bird turned out beautiful.

Good looking mount.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'll be posting up a pic of the bird I mentioned last month that I had the opportunity and privilege to mount. It is a duck that is rarely taken in this part of the country. I just got it mounted and is drying as we speak. Everyone on this site are seasoned hunters sooooooo, any guesses out there? :) I'll keep an eye out and if you need a couple of clues, I'll give them to you. Talk with you all soon.

King Eider ????????????????
-
Blue-winged teal?
-
muleyhunter and bobcat sorry but no. Here is a hint: This bird is not native to this country. Most birds shot by hunters in this country, which are very few, are either pen raised escapees, or an occasional wild bird that has lost his way in a migration. hope that helps. John

I have two goals for next season: put my dogs on as many birds as possible and shoot a woody. Awesome and beautiful mount. Thanks for posting
-
OK then is it a puddle duck or a sea duck ???????? You do realize just how many bird species that you have describe. You're killin me :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Ok Muleyhunter, it's a Dabbling/Puddle duck. And to make it really easy on you this duck has sub-species that are common to our area. :) ;) John

OK John, You said you're excited to mount this bird and all the other clues. This bird I would be excited to mount is it a Baikal Teal ???????? I was going to guess Mandarin but Washingtonmuley took it :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
Good Job Muleyhunter you got it, it is a Baikal Teal. Your very good at interpreting words. :chuckle: :chuckle: What a gorgeous bird they are. It makes you not want to shoot them if you ever get a chance........NOT. :) Hopefully one of these days I will get my hands on a Mandarin, those are gorgeous birds as well.
I will post some pic's when I get him on a base and he is finished drying.
Michelle, you and your Coots!!!!!! Don't you even think of sending me one of those! >:( Talk with you all soon. John
-
I am going to shoot a Coot just to send to you and have you mount it for me. :chuckle:
-
To those that don't know what a Baikal teal looks like here is a picture of one. I'm sure everyone knows what one looks like it's just giving me a excuse to post a picture of this beautiful bird :) :) :)
