It's ridiculous when the government starts telling the people what color clothing they have to wear. Why orange? Why not pink?
I agree I want to wear hunter pink ;) and there is some green and yellow out there that is blinding... I hate orange to be honest. Idaho doesn't have hunter orange rules and I dont think they have an excessive number of accidental shootings :dunno: this whole government knows best is getting really old really fast.....we should be able to make our own choices I dont wear orange during bear season :dunno: still idiots with guns in the woods and responsible people with guns in the woods just doesn't make much sense.

I know a guy who shot his partner by accident, he shot an animal and it passed through killing his life long hunting partner. He said if he'd worn orange it wouldn't have happened.
I have a friend who saw a relative shoot someone. Again orange would have prevented it.
The main argument I always see is don't tell me what to do. Well when people stop being stupid we won't have to be told. (never happen)
I wear orange so hopefully someone won't shoot me, but have found it to be very good camo in dry areas.
If you got shot once you probably wouldn't think twice about wearing it.

Here is a novel thought how about using your God given choice and using your freaking noodle! I wear hunters orange when rifle hunting, but have taken it off once i'm 50-60 ft up a tree in my stand... Is it against the law? yep, do i think it comprimises my safty, NO! I Didn't wear hunter orange while rifle hunting in ID last year, and didn't shoot my bro in law or cousin.... Made it harder to push/drive through the woods tho. :twocents: Good for Oregonians for standing up the THE MAN and the Nanny State!

I have told this story before on this forum about the hunter I had bear hunting who was sitting watching large berry patches. Suddenly he sees a black bear moving in the hucklebery brush on the hillside below. The bear was slowly moving as it fed on berries, the hunter took off his safety and was waiting for the bear to move out of the brush for a clear shot, suddenly a woman dressed totally in black stood up, he had his crosshairs on her butt in the brush.
He about had heart failure, he was going to quit hunting altogether. Fortunately after a couple days we got him to hunt again. But this guy really did nothing wrong, in fact he did it right, he was waiting for a clear shot and not just pulling the trigger on color in the brush.
Even though I don't agree with forced hunter orange, this clearly demonstrates the need for people to wear some color of clothing not representative of game. The real problem I see is that many ordinary people have no idea that they need to wear the right colors when in the field. Most hunters are pretty smart about avoiding the wrong colors.
That whole affair really scared the crap out of me too.

Increased hunting accidents, by not requiring hunter orange, would mean more upset non-hunters and more loss of hunting opportunity. Remember Washington is the smallest western state with only California having more total people in the western states, that means more non-hunters.

The gal on Sauk Mountain was wearing blue. Why? She was not a hunter.
Even if she was, it was bear season.
Did she have the choice to wear orange? Sure.
Could the situation be prevented if the shooter was wearing orange? No.
Leave it a choice for personal safety.
I can't stand the angry mother "there should be a law" people. They won't stop until we are all padded with bubble wrap drinking public tap water out of recycled metal cans.

I wear an orange vest and I have orange on my backpack...I want to help the morons out there as much as possible. Every single year you hear about someone in Idaho being shot while wearing their brown carhartts during elk season. To me those guys are almost as much a moron as the guy who shot them...not as much but almost! :twocents:
this is simply culling the weak from the herd ;)

Deer are colorblind....So they dont know your wearing orange....
I might be wrong but the idea of wearing camo is so that it breaks up your body pattern against whats behind or around you...so you blend in....the different patterns for different outdoor situations, seasons, etc...blah, blah, blah.
Soooooo wearing orange with a break up pattern could solve the issue for those that wear orange and dont want to. And you can think of this as saving your life and still giving yourself and advantage against most the people out there that just wear a big pumpkin suit and stick out....I dont know though...my opinion i guess...but ill recommend to anyone to be smart and wear there orange.

Good Point. Deer are colorblind and see everything in shades of gray but see a wider wavelength of light than humans, from deep in the Infrared to Ultraviolet. What that means is they can see light reflecting off material in ways that we can't. Things like Nylon, Denim, Polyester will shine a bit compared to ferns and pine branches. You can wear blaze orange overalls or tiger stripe and look the same to deer. If they're washed in modern Color brightening detergents you will shine compared to vegetation.
Now if I could just find a Blaze orange wool Ghillie suit and wash it in the right stuff... :chuckle:

WOW....I TOTALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BEFORE ALSO...
Think about getting busted from a gamewarden for not having enough orange on and having to pull 400SQ inches of it tied to your ghillie suit off...one small strip at a time putting it together on the hood of his truck.....bet the game warden would still write you a ticket....lol....

You guys ever notice that all the good clothing made for hunters is camo, and NOT available in orange ??? Why buy expensive camo clothing and then cover it up with orange? It's very difficult to even find a rain coat in orange. Lots of green, yellow, blue, but orange is hard come by.I sure have. Cabelas has catalogs full of camo, but just a few if any orange, waterproof, quiet, uninsulated garments. I asked once and they told me they don't sell enough to justify carrying it. :bash:
