ok, on page 79 of the regs, it says mule deer sept. 1st to dec. 31st. gmu's open to mule deer hunting. does that mean that you can only hunt it while it is normaly open or can you hunt it all four months with any weapon. for example, if drawn, can i hunt unit 204 with a gun at the end of november. thanks :dunno:
-
You can hunt any time in those four months, with any weapon you choose. The GMU just has to have some sort of mule deer hunt during the year. At least that is my understanding.
-
Know that most of the raffle tag holders wait until mid November to pursue the bucks but has anyone heard of any raffle tag holders getting a trophy buck in the velvet?
-
You can hunt with any weapon during the time frame unless there is an open season in the unit you are hunting, and then you have to use the weapon type that is in that particular season.
-
:yeah: i think :chuckle:
-
Everybody's got it correct.

Haven't heard that part before, that sucks!
-
Is that right?
-
i know other states it does not matter thats like the spider bull was killed during the late muzzle the guy shot him with a rifle but i am sure it was a gov tag instead of a raffel but i think they are the same rules i think :dunno:

I don't think thats accurate.
You can definitely use a rifle during archery seasons with a raffle tag if you want to.
-
But jackelope, you already said everybody had it correct. :)
I was wondering about that part too. It doesn't say that in the regulation pamphlet.
-
it's called slow down and read everything...
ADD maybe, I don't know.
sorry I missed that.
-
I really don't know the rules for the raffle hunts, as I've never had one. But I would assume if you are drawn for it, they will send you more detailed rules than what they have in the pamphlet.
-
The winner of the deer and elk
raffles may purchase an additional deer or elk
license/tag for the general hunting season if they
choose. If selected, any legal weapon may be used
during the hunt.

I thought that it was any legal weapon during that weapons particular time frame.. meaning you could go during archery with a bow, then again during rifle with rifle, etc. Sounds though like you could have bow, rifle, and muzzleloaders all in the GMU at the same time. how many tags are given out for that GMU?
-
Those raffles sound like a poor mans govenors tag!
-
 long shot but hey ya never know :)

That is exactly what it is. As far as I can come up with, there is no difference except the price tag. You can hunt the Entiat with a rifle from Sept 1 till Dec. 31 if you wanted to.
Literally.

It's all kinds of fun

I bet.

wow! that is alot of info. the tag cant be used in permit only units and there is only one tag given. and it is like a gov. tag except i cant pay 5 guys to find my animal a week ahead of time, tell me whare it is and then fly in for the shot(not hunt). plus i have to work for a living, so i only get 4 days to make the most of it. that is if i get drawn. thanks for all your help, i think.

That is correct! Mule_Deer_Crazy won the raffle several years ago and kindly abstained from smoking a buck in the Entiat during the late archery season - but had he done so, he would have been entirely within his rights. Something for archers to consider when bashing on rifle hunters ...

yes it can.
-
The only permit only units are Desert, Quilomene, and Alkali and I don't see anything that says a guy can't hunt those units with the mule deer raffle tag. It says "GMU's open to mule deer hunting."
Of course the only one worth trying with that tag would be Desert. You could get in there the day after the Desert rifle permit season ends on November 7th. Hunt that for about a week, and then head up to Chelan or Okanogan, and hunt some of the units that don't have a late archery season, like Pearrygin and Chewuch.
Man that would be great to hunt a unit that has absolutely nobody else hunting it, AND while the deer are rutting. Shoot, I think I just talked myself into buying a few raffle tickets.
And I was going to try to give the WDFW as little money as possible this year. :bash:
-
A buddy of mine got one of the incentive tags a few years ago. The ones that you get if you call in your hunter reports. He got to choose between the elk tag and the deer tag. He chose the elk tag and ended up shooting a rag head 5pt. Him and I both wish we would have know each other back when he got that tag because I think the outcome would have been a liitle different. It was only his second year hunting and he shot the first bull he saw. :bash:
-
I am pretty sure if I drew that tag I would probably lose my job because I would be gone Nov 1st-Dec 31st.

you think it would take that long?

You could hunt the Desert 9/1 if you wanted to. You could also hunt the units with a late archery season during the late archery season if you wanted to.

My reasoning was that with that tag I would try to hunt units at times when there is no other season going on. To me that would be the best way to take full advantage of that opportunity.
