Just curious how ya like it if you do? :dunno:
Wife is going to buy one...and me thinks that will be a good thing!! :IBCOOL:
-
I have the 450D, but my wife's mom has the 500d. I really like them, they are basically the exact same camera, except the 500 has video capability, supposedly in 1080p HD, but I've heard some good things and bad things about the video quality. If your wifey is thinking about getting one, I would be jumping for joy :brew:
-
I have a T1i love it. Easy to use and takes awesome pics and videos

The video quality is pretty good as long as you have good lenses. The kit lense is too loud and slow IMO. The constant hammering of the auto fucus will destroy the cheap motor in kit lenses.

Huh...so in vid mode its focusing and refocusing more than when you are just taking pics? I could see that wearing on that motor.....

Your focus is AI servo when taking video meaning it will constantly try to refocus on the subject as it moves. The kit lenses junt dont hold up to that much use nor can they move fast enough anyways. Shoot in 720 and the video will be better with the kit lens.

What type of lens will work best with the HD Vid??

Any L glass. Personally I like the 17-40L for video with the t1I and 7d.

WA, I saw a little 50 mm I think, 2.8 or something like that, that is only like $80-90 new.... do you have that lens? Would it be a good indoor family lens? (not for vid...just pics)

Yes that is what most call the "nifty 50" Canon 50mm 1.8. I think everyone should have one. For the bucks you wont find a sharper lens. I take mine anyplace I dont feel comfortable taking the 1.2.
Don

1.2.....DAM! That has got to be crazy sharp.... Low light extraordinaire eh....
-
I have had one for about 2 weeks and really like it so far

Probably the best purchase, for the money, anyone can make. It's a MUST HAVE. The 1.8 f-stop can get CRAZY DOF, I mean eyes in focus with nose and background a beautiful Bokeh. Shoot like a pro for $100.00.
-
That sounds awesome... I"ll order that sucker... when we order the cam.

Just dont expect low light miracles from it. It shoots much better at 2.8 or so. For low light a flash or two is a better option.

Sounds like he is about to pull the trigger!

Question:
Can you fit any lens on any camera SLR? I have the Cannon Rebel and I am wondering if I can put a Nikon 50 mm f/1.8D AF Lens on it?? :dunno:

Uhhh, Thanks, that's what I thought.

Its a couple months out Doug... but it is going to happen....thats the nice thing about if Momma wants it! It happens! (well...it happens when I want it too, but I just have to be a little sneakier.... :chuckle:)

IMO, the lower stops actually allow me to shoot a little faster of exposure in lower light, HOWEVER, I agree with you about using it at 2.8 for general shooting; it can sometimes be a little bit of a pain to get a perfect focus when your depth of field is only a few inches wide when set to f/1.8...that and all lower end plastic lenses tend to hunt a little and are often off when using auto focus. Regardless of all that, these are minor technicalities to learn for what that darn little piece of plastic can do. Here's an example of the great DOF.
-
Here is an example of a low light shot. This was in total darkness shot with a led pen through a stoffen bounced off a small mirror.
Not the sharpest 1.8@1/25 IIRC.

Cool... do you guys have the kit lens? Is it complete crap or "ok" :dunno: Just trying to figure out if getting the body only is even an option....when you buy the kit, you get that lens for like $50....
-
Well, I take that back, the body is only $620 while the kit is $750. Funny thing though, at least on amazon...is I cant find the total contents of the kit? Body, Lens.... what else??? strap? Charger? STuff like that.... does the body come with a charger and battery???
-
OK, I looked.... the "body only" has everything the "lens kit" has, except for the lens.. So, for about $130 I can get this
EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens..... Now... I already know I am going to be buying the Nifty Fifty....
What is a BETTER, affordable (under $400??) lens for everyday shooting/family/sports/etc.... Than this "kit" lens?
Thanks MUCH!
And hey...with 1.6 crop... I guess the kit lens is effectively 28-88? So to get a true wide angle, I have to drop way down?

The kit lens is a ok lens for the bucks, the IS version is much better than past versions. You will want a zoom lens, having just a 50mm prime wouldnt be much fun. Your right about the crop factor but dont stress over it, just learn to shoot. If you could afford it in IMO a 17-40F4L would be a better choice than the kit lens. Check with B&H and see if they can work out a deal. You will get everthing you need to start off, with the body except for maybe a SD card but they are cheap.

This is what I'd like... to make the wife happy....

But the $1200 price tag doesn't work....

But the 7G's again interfere with reality....
I bought a sigma 28-205 3.8-5.6 UC-III for my Elan about 6 or 7 years ago.... would this lens work in the T1i? Would it be Crap compared to the kit lens??
-
I'm pretty sure the Elan was an ef body. All my lenses except the EFS work fine on my old 1V body.
Not sure about that sigma but I'd give it a shot and see how you like it before jumping into high dollar canons. The 16-35 is sweet I rented one for a weekend. To much money for a zoom lens unless you shoot alot of weddings or something like that.

Can't go wrong with Canon's 28-135 IS USM. nextag.com just showed them for $250.00.
-
The only thing I see about that 28 is that its not super wide.... but after looking around a bit, that does sound like a decent lens for the money. Xcept I only saw it for like $389... $250 sounds like it would be a bargain!
-
Yeah, you need to go to nextag.com (an internet shopping comparison site) and search "canon 28 - 135" and it will list all of the internet sellers and who has the best value. I pretty much use this for ALL of my shopping because you can find the lowest price and then go to best buy (or whoever) to get a price match. Works like a charm. It's not quite as wide as say the 18 - 135 IS lens, but I would rather have USM autofocus over an extra 10mm of width any day, but that is me. Depends on what your needs are. It also has a build quality of the way more expensive lenses. I have heard that Canon is thinking of phasing this lens out because it is such a good lens for the money and all around that they want to have to break up peoples needs to get them to buy multiple lenses, but that is completely heresy and I have no validity of it what-so-ever, merely speculation from a couple of different certified Canon dealers.
-
hmmm....that might be the way to go....especially if I could get it for $250 ish...

Whats up with this site?? What is the catch?
http://www.thundercameras.com/products.asp?dept_id=10002&product_id=1804 (http://www.thundercameras.com/products.asp?dept_id=10002&product_id=1804)
This "Body" for $419? Its $630 at any credible shop? And the lens you pointed out... its near $400 everywhere... I'm not getting it...
They even have a 50D body, brand new, listed for $620 or so.....

Do your homework before buying from someplace like that, their are alot of crooks in the industry. A price that is alot lower than the competitor is likely a scam. The 28-135 is not being phased out so that canon can make more money. It was a kit lens option for the 50d and was not popular due to all the problems with vignetting and barrel distortion.
B&H and Adorama are two good vendors B&H being one of the best in the industry.

good to know!

See I'm not the only one that likes B&H. Its where I buy everything camera wise.
-
With about 10 other multithousand dollar projects in the works.... I think I'll end up getting her the Kit... then start holing some money away and maybe in 6-8 months ??? I can pick up a "real lens"... (not a wildlife lens either.....a real family lens....)

Rick, try hitting the display button on the upper left-hand side of the camera. ...Or are you trying to get the monitor to show what the camera is shooting? This is called "live view" mode and can be enabled by pressing the menu button and going through the menus until you find the option for "Live view mode". Once it is enabled if you hit the enter button (in the center of the four directional buttons) while shooting it will change the monitor to show what the camera is looking at - much like a point and shoot would.
-
yes i want the live view mode. cant find it yet.Rick
-
IIRC if its enabled you use the set button. The one in the middle of the up down left right buttons.
If its not enabled in the menu look for the live view in one of the first two menu options and enable it.
Don

Once camera is powered on, press menu, move to the 5th menu to the right (middle yellow menu with the wrench icon) scroll down to "live view function settings" - second from the bottom, press "set" key to select this menu. On live view shoot press "set" key again to enable. If you are partial to a 1/3 grid, for composition purposes, go down one more and turn "grid display" on. I don't often shoot in live view, but I DO like the grid when I do so I can see if I'm lining up subjects on the 1/3 lines. Now you have ENABLED live view shooting mode, but that didn't actually change the camera TO live view. All you need to do, while it is enabled, is press the "set" key while in any shooting mode to turn the display into the live view mode and visca versa to turn it off.
Hope this helps,
Decks

Okay, so this site IS A SCAM!!!!!! Both Thunder Cameras and Primo Cameras are sites that come up on Nextag.com as sellers. I can tell you I just tried ordering a lens from Thunder because the price was good. They sent me an email and said they wouldn't ship until I called them. Called them and after all of the normal verification of the order and blah blah blah (I was already wondering why they would want to confirm everything they already had?) The operator asked me why I was ordering the IMPORT version of the lens which has a plastic mount and would lose some stops. Upon further inquiry, he stated that they sold the AMERICAN version of the lens for the price everyone else was selling on Nextag.com when I questioned this business practice, he immediately just cancelled my order and HUNG UP ON ME.
I next tried Primo Cameras and had nearly the exact same experience. If ordering off of vendors that come up on Nextag.com, I would use one of the "trusted sellers". Found the lens cheaper on Amazon from a very reliable seller and went that way.
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry cant figure it out. i'll leave it at home. thank's for the help. Rick
