Correct me if I'm wrong, but did we just get an email on a sighting outside our hunt area? :dunno:

I thought it was nice of them to tell us about seeing a bear, but yes that is not part of the permit area.  :dunno:

Yeah, I was gonna say, why don't they tell you about all the other bears that have been seen in people's back yards all around the Puget Sound area?    :bash:

Maybe they should change your permit to being valid anywhere on the westside of the state...

They need to open up the whole state for spring bear and increase the permits.  It's obvious that there are plenty of bears.......why not open it up???  :dunno:

Gotta check ya on that one.  ;)  That's within a couple miles of the walk in only unit that we can hunt every day.   If it was headed that way it could easily be there by evening.   They left out key information :P :bash: >:(

Ya, I suppose, it could stop at the houses and check their garbage cans on the way....
 :dunno:
Strange coincidence, but I sent Donny Martorello an e-mail complaining about lack of information from Weyco yesterday, he sent me a response today saying he contacted them and reminded them.
We exchanged a few messages about what I have been seeing,
1/2 hour later I got the e-mail........ :dunno:

With a Game Warden to write tickets, being it was not in permit area.
P.S. there are 75 of us.

According to D, Martorello, it is part of the agreement with Weyco, they don't get depredation permits, unless they tell us where they are receiving damage, and we aren't effective in controlling it.
They (Weyerhaeuser) cannot claim that we are not being effective, if they don't let us have any info.

Boot hunts (in the small amount of permits given out) are not effective in curbing damage.

Maybe they can start releasing all the captured bears from Tacoma and release them a few minutes ahead of you guys? :dunno:

:chuckle: Fing wildlife. They have no clue...

Effective, or not, they dont get any until after we are notified of damage and allowed to hunt,
then they get 4, yes, only 4, how effective is that ?

Oh, I bet those hound hunters could chase a lot of bears off Weyerhaeuser ground and onto DNR with only 4 depredation permits.   :chuckle:

Mostly what I am trying to say is that in order for them to be allowed to have DP permits, they have to notify us of any sightings and any areas that are receiving damage.
After our season they will be allowed to have 4 permits. If they do not tell us of any damage areas, then they dont have a reason for the permits.
This is what the guy that is in charge of these hunts told me,...but you know how far you can trust them... :dunno:

Chasing bears with dogs (even without killing) is honestly much more effective then boot hunting.

So their "sighting" was just a feeble attempt to comply with the agreement.
I am not argueing about effectiveness, only trying to explain why they told us about seeing a bear.
