-
No Moose for me. Next year!!!!
-
bum deal guys was hopin to see someone get a tag , but there is still washington  :chuckle:
-
No luck here.
-
i didnt draw and im a resident, unit 39 goat
now i looked at the odds and i see why i didnt draw
2009 6 1st choice applicants for 2 tags
2010 44 1st choice applicants for 2 tags
guess everybody had the same idea i did
-
No goat tag for me either. 14 year drought in Idaho for me! >:( nwhunter
-
No goat tag................
-
Yeah, mine was 4 permits with 74 applicants. To put that into perspective, I think Washington has 4,000 applicants for 4 tags or so. SOmeone would have to pull the exact numbers.

No goat for bro-in-law either.

yea i know odds are tough in washington i played that game while i was there the thing that really jumps out at me is the 500% or better increase in applicants for unit 39 goat, i wonder if a lot of people werent trying to get OIL tags this season because next season the draw may be as bad as washingtons with the talk of revamping and bringing in a point system
-
yeah points will screw Idaho's odds..
-
They talked about a point system for Idaho at their commission meeting last week. Haven't heard or seen the minutes as to what was said. Myself - I hope they go to a points system. I can't draw a tag there now and I am in the resident quota.
A friend of mine drew in Unit 1. Hope he is gonna need some help!
-
No points in ID, you know its gonna happen though.
-

SUX, is exactly correct, I am an Idaho outfitter and I don't even want to see points, it will screw up the odds like all the other states. Right now the best odds to draw moose are in idaho, why F*** up a good thing.
-
Points are like crack they cant help themselves. At least we will be on the ground floor. Thats the only good thing. All the folks that miss next year are fubar...Im glad there licence is only 180 bucks.. :chuckle:

Because, the state of Idaho needs a product to sell, they can't sell moose tags to everybody every year, but they CAN sell a hunting license and a point to everybody every year.
-
man i had no idea they were that much better

WA does the same thing...
-
carpsniper if you apply for I think units 20 and 21 you have about 100% chance to draw. There are left over tags there just about every year. They are tougher access and I am not sure how many moose are there.
You probably need horses.
-
cool thanks bearpaw i might have to try that next year
-
There are other easier access units with 25% to 50% odds.

Yes of course. But the difference is Idaho stands to make a lot more money than Washington does by selling hunting licenses to non-residents that will never be used. A non-resident can apply for a moose tag in Washington for $60, and for that they get a point. How much does it cost to apply for moose in Idaho?

Are you sure, it says you have to have a washington hunting license.
OK, I just saw the exception for goat sheep moose on needing a license.
-
That's why non-residents love applying for our moose, sheep, and goat permits. We're probably the lowest cost state to apply in for those species.
-
I think the state needs to publish in there new reports the actual number of non residents in all the point pools for the different species.
-
agree

Not sure that's the case, in fact Carter Services recommends against applying for Washington (unless that changed in the last year).

Here is a quote from the May 2009 issue of Garth Carter's "Huntin' Fool" magazine:
Anyone applying for sheep, goat, and/or moose in other states should consider applying in Washington. They have some good quality hunts. The non-refundable application fees are less than $60 per species. You will build bonus points each year you are unsuccessful in drawing a tag. Resident and non-resident applicants are in the same application pool. There are not any non-resident quotas when it comes to these three species. Apply and let us know if you draw!

Nice!
-
Nothing for me. :'(
-
Is it cheaper for a non-resident to hunt in Idaho than it is for a non-resident to hunt in Washington?
-
NO
-
More expensive in Idaho.
Many states use a formula that costs 10x more for non-residents than residents. That is Washington's formula too.
