Thinking about replacing my .380 with a Glock 27 (.40 cal) or 36 (.45 cal) and was wondering what others prefer between these two models for a concealed weapon with stopping power. The Model 36 is a tad larger than the Model 27, but I like the punch that the .45 cal provides.

For a concealed carry I would go with the 27. My buddy has one and I've carried it concealed in a pants pocket comfortably and unnoticeably. I think the thicker grip of the 36 would make it a bit more difficult to conceal and may lead to it not being carried at times. I also think the 40cal has plenty of poop for 99.9% of those situations where you may need it.

I looked at the 27, but it just didnt feel right in my hand, so went with the 23 instead. I have no problem with CC with it, so I am sure that the 27 would conceal just as easy. :twocents:

Go with the 27 if you can shoot it but you might want to rent one first to make sure, a very concealable pistol in either your pocket or iwb.

Have to concur and say check out the 23. Also, I wouldn't recommend the 27 (unless you have very strong hands) or the 36. The 36 is a great idea, but if I'm only carrying 6 rounds I would like a .357 wheelgun and some speedloaders. The glock 23/19 have the exact frame dimensions as the 36, but hold 13/15 rounds.
Have you checked out the G30? 10 rounds of .45 ACP sub in a slightly wider frame, very nice to shoot!

I've got the G26, which is the exact same size as the 27, but in 9mm. I've ended up picking up a ruger lcr 38sp+p to replace it as a carry concealed. The LCR is about 1/2 the weight fully loaded. I've got a sig sauer concealed carry jacket, that looks like a carhartt jacket. With the G26 in one of the concealed pockets, the coat always drags to one side. If I've got it in a paddle holster, it feels real nice, but at least in my mind isn't concealed too well. The butt kind of sticks your shirt out. It also doesn't fit into any of my pockets easily. A pair of cargo shorts can maybe hide it in the cargo pocket, but it still feels bulky. When I bought it in 97(?), I picked up a +2, which you swap out with the base plate of the stock mag, and it gives you an extra 2 rounds, and a place to put your pinkie.
The LCR feels real lite, even when loaded. Granted, it only holds 5 rounds, but I'm not using it to get into a fire fight, just to get out of a messy situation. Plus, there are speed loaders. If your looking for something with a little more bang than a +P, Rugers coming out with the LCR in a .357 magnum.
I've got the G26 in my bedroom, as a middle of the night weapon, and it's small enough that my wife's considering using it. (We've got a real weird situation about 1/2 mile from our home. A guys decided to rent out the lower half of his split level to approximately 15 homeless, and level 2/3 sex offenders. That's finally got my wife to want to learn to fire a gun. She's currently a stay at home mom with 2 of my 3 kids. Its a big enough size for stopping power, that she can still control.)

the 27 is very small especially if you have large hands.
I don't know how you guys would stuff a g27 in your pants pocket un-noticed. it drives me crazy to have a cell phone in my pocket... :dunno:

maybe it's just me but I'm not that interested in carrying my pistol inside a pocket. I use a holster for my cell phone and will stick with a holster for my pistol. I realize thats not everyone's opinion and am ok with it....just not for me.

Haha! I use an in-pocket holster for my J frame, pistol on one side, wang on the other.

I carry a Glock 27 and I have big hands. I put a rubber sleeve on it and it is easily controllable, in that it does not feel like it will slip around in my grip. I put a finger extension on it that gives me 2 full fingers on the grip. This leaves the little finger underneath. I just got a sleeve that will go on a Glock 23 (mid-sized) magazine that fills in the gap between the bottom of the gun and the bottom of the longer magazine. This gives me the option to have a compact and a mid-sized grip to choose from. You can also get the same set up for the full sized 22 grip. The sleeve is made by A and G. This has worked well for me. :IBCOOL: Something to consider.

Thanks guys. After doing alot of reading and then handling the Glocks, I decided to buy a Springfield XD40 SC. I liked the "fit" better and am very happy with the way it shoots without having to use the extended grip magazine.

XDs are good pistols as well. They have a slimmer grip than the Glock. I am sure that it will serve you well.
