so the only times i hunted yotes was in the winter time but never did it in the spring or summer. thinking bout heading out today, is there like a usual time that they roam around like deer and elk? was thinking bout heading out bout 4pm and when night time starts to get closer hopfully they be roaming around for food. what u guys think?
-
I would guess, the closer to dusk or early morning, the better.
-
the evenings can be different every night sometimes i have them come in before its hardly getting dim and sometimes im sitting out there tel after 10:30 before they start howling, if i can wake up early enough i try to go in the morning, one other thing i start doing is try to find dens i know are being used and trying challenge barks or a pup in distress call, those moms will come running in pissed off
-
in a couple months maybe less there will be some real curious pups out of the den. they come in pretty easy.
-
so them dogs dont have a usual set schedual that they do day in and day out then.. hmm would squaling technique still work or is the pup in distress the ticket for this time of the year?
-
they are pretty active right now with pups to feed, so you could bump into them at any time. but generaly dawn and dusk are best.
-
yeah it depends this time of year if you are hunting for males or females also, both probly have a different schedule, nice cold cloudy days are probly the best alot of times i will catch males out around 9 - 11 in the morning coming out for a snack, sometimes i will also just drive lots of areas stop and glass an area occasionally if i see one ill get out and go set up on it
-
alright cool thanks 4 the help.. gonna roll out of here in a bit n see if i get one
-
Ive had the best luck around here in the early morning tell noone. I believe Ive got most between 10-12 which I thought was strange.
-
dang demon thats crazy good number of yotes.. well yesterday didnt get nothin but decided to head out behind my buddies place tonight. had one in my cross hairs buts missed egh oh well good clean miss, called one in, it was a good day. gonna try again in next 2 or 3 days
-
When the pups are out you can lay the hurt on them with the pup in dist call. they will run you over trying to find whats hurting there pup(I have been) :o
-
ya sounds like it, mother instincts come into play.. gotta start writing down what calls to use durring parts of the season haha.. hey demon, someone told me that that the LT get hits hard and theres hardly any yotes a few couple years back. that true?
-
Yes and no. There are a lit of yotes out there the problem is a lot of them have been shot at and missed. best thing I can tell you is to get away from the roads and call. Start quite and work up louder, they can be sneaky as he'll out there so be ready for anything and stay dead still. I got ran over by one out there last nov but he got a 40gr vmax :chuckle:
-
haha nice.. alright was curious cuz i see sign but dont see em plus from what i heard
-
Ive shot a lot of yotes out there last year was slow but I shot 80 rds the year before and only missed a hand full of yotes. :o

Probably when you will see them MOST during the day is RIGHT NOW. As Carp stated, they will be out in the filed drumming up gophers etc.
