I finally bought one! I dig it! Is the any mods available for them? Stocks, levers, sights? Anything? Also whats the best ammo for elk, and bear?
-
That is a sweet gun. I would love to have one. I would put a set of XS Ghost Ring sights on it. A little spendy but you get what you pay for. Check them out here:

hell yeah that is a sweet sight!

Great choice for a gun.

i've got 2 marlin 336's in 30-30 and i enjoy shooting them a lot. you'll love the gun. i'm interested in trying out the leverrevolution ammo in them to see how it shoots. if you look around there are some custom stocks available and other stuff.
-
I put an AO ghost ring site as well as a Leupold forward mounted scout scope with removable mounts. I love to shoot this gun.

i have a marlin 336 in 30-30 and ive tried the leverevolutions by hornady (just target shooting) and they seem to do pretty darn good. i planned on using them for deer season but ended up using my 06 the day i got my deer.

yeah the ammo mentioned above rips, but at 325 grains packs a punch.

I own three Marlin lever actions: a 30-30 Cowboy, a 45-70 Cowboy and a 308 Marlin with the walnut stock. I put a 3x9x40 scope on the 308 Marlin and William's peep sights on the other two. However, if I were to do it again; I would definitely do the AO ghost ring on the 45-70 and the 30-30.

Killed my first few deer with a marlin moxdel 336 30-30. My favorite gun. Its old form the 60's. Dads first gun he killed his first deer with it and many more after that. I like marlin lever actions way better than winchester imo

finally! my kind of thread :chuckle:
My first is an 1895LTD III. 18in Octagon Barrel, straight stock, 5 round full length mag tube, #86 of 1000.
The second was an 1895gs. Carried it a few years then sold it for the "Jeep" fund.
If you haven't heard of Wild West Guns in Anchorage take a look at their site. I can't recommend strongly enough their Happy Trigger/Sear kit. A one piece unit, I was able to install it my self. No slack, creep, a clean break at about 2&1/2-3lbs.
When I sold the gs I kept all the custom parts and put them into the LTD; the WWG trigger kit, one piece Bear Proof Ejector, anodized aluminum mag follower and a Wolfe heavy duty mag spring. I let the ghost ring sight go with the gs but I liked it a lot. I also had a Pachmyer Redline recoil pad put on. Most of my shooting has been with Buffalo Bores 430gr +P loads since I bought these for my solo trips in the Brooks Range.
Since I became a vehicle owner again after a long time on foot and have started hunting (again?) (the tag along deer trips in the 80's I don't count) I've been using Hornadys 325gr.

yeah starting to find more for my gun! Thats for all the advice and the darn good reads!
-
I like the 400gr speers over a big dose of varget, the big meplat hardcast are mean too.
-
nice! those pack a punch huh?
-
yep those Buffalo Bore rounds will do to a basketball size rock what an M80 will do to a watermelon

I have had a 1895 for about 10 years now and love it. All I shoot is a 525gr cast bullet at about 1300fps. Have killed a few nice bucks with it and a bear. It is the ultimate brush gun.
