Not sure what yet as I am at work, but I drew Nevada. BY THE WAY Nevada is posted.
-
congrats.
-
which species?
-
Deer. Probably a late longbow hunt.
-
Well get your azz home and check it! Us peons who have drawn nothing yet wanna know! :chuckle:
-
anyone have a map of Nevada? can you tell me how to get there. :chuckle:
-
What unit?
MS
-
Now don't take this to the bank or anything, but I believe in school they showed us one of those maps once and it is south of you somewhere, pretty sure. They called it a globe I believe. If you put your finger on where your at, Nevada would be toward the fatter part of the , er, globe. Yeah, that's it.
-
I saw it was posted yesterday but I didn't have any skin in the game or else I would have posted it. Congrats! I have a hard time convincing the wife to let me drive 4-5 hours to hunt let alone, Nevada. :dunno:

Heck, I sometimes drive 4-5 hours to hunt parts of WA. I'll take a Nevada tag any day regardless how far a drive it is.

hang a right in twin falls and enjoy nevada anit like the rest of the west

I don't have a frickin clue. I assumed it was application 1341, but apparantly thats the group of hunts. I've had 3 hours sleep in three days compliments of work....bare in mind I can save your life if you are bleeding to death, thats autopilot, but do you think I can figure out what I put in for. :chuckle: At this point I am just happy they aren't telling me "USUCC....." Where is that kid that was asking how this feels.
DANG. Gonna have to sharpen up my stalking skills in that. LOL
-
Well that's cool you at least drew something! I'll have to check later and see if I ended up with anything.
MS
-
SHould be a damn good hunt unless of course I accidentally checked the antlerless hunt again. :)
-
Congrats Bone!
-
Congradulations Bone. Thats not the cottontail ranch hunt You hear about from your friends. :chuckle:
-
....and now the work begins. Congrats! Looking forward to the story and pics post hunt.
-

OMG, no offense Doug, and I pray it didn't happen, but if you drew an antlerless tag I am gonna be LMFAO. :chuckle:
-
Congrats dude...can't wait to see the pics and hear the stories.
get to work now!!
-
Congrats
-
I did that once as a 4th choice about 4 years ago here in Washington. I had max points and of course was putting in for big buck hunts, I somehow threw down my fourth choice as desert, except I didn't catch that I put down an antlerless hunt by accident. I didn't find out until I got my not selected in the mail. SIGH of relief on THAT one. I hope I didn't jsut jinx myself.
-
:chuckle:
-
Looks like you drew 101 late archery. I believe that is the Ruby Mt.s . Congrats and good luck I haven't hunted there but I have a friend who drew the late rifle there this year. Heard there is lots of deer and some pretty good bucks there. Not what it used to be I was told but you should see some 170 class bucks anyway. If you are like me just seeing a successful instead of all unsuccessful gives a boost in your step. Kill a giant.
-
Rubys :)
[smg id=9445]
-
Thats a big part of the adventure, figuring out where your going after someone tells you, you can go. :)
-
Wow, damn pretty country right there. Never seen the Ruby's myself, unless I flew over them on the way to Vegas. Congrats Doug, I am sure you'll have a great hunt.
-
I just drove throught there three weeks ago. Didn't see a cop from Boise to las Vegas; i had no idea how fast my Yukon could go. ;)
-
Awesome!!!
-
Does this mean we get to call you an *censored*? --Putting in for an area you have never scouted--. Seems like that is the theme on the elk threads in the blues :chuckle:
-
Better make sure that CC has room on it...they might give your tag to some other *censored* :P
-
This is really going to screw up my deer photography here in Washington. :yike:
-
I'll have to join hunting-nevada.com and with my first post say....
I drew the Late rut tag for the Ruby mtns in Nevada, can someone tell me where it is and if there really are deer there and if there are if someone would liek to tell me where to go.I don't want any honey holes now.....and are there any maps for the area.......and.....

Good luck bone....I know you'll have fun.

That's fantastic! Congrats!
You should try to connect with a snow cock while you're there! Very cool birds.
-

You can drive for 100 miles in that country and not see another car or road sign... :o
-
That's a great area to hunt. I've always wanted to apply in Nevada but never have, due to the low odds and the cost. Well Bone, you got the one "real" hunt you were wanting to do this year. Are you taking Idabooner with you?
-
Good luck bone!
-
Good Luck I am looking foward to seeing the pics
-
Congrats on the tag...get a big one! I wasn't lucky maybe NM or MT tho
-
Are you taking Idabooner with you?
THat hasn't been discussed though there is a pretty good chance it could happen. He is awefully fond of his slobbering snoreing dog that I am dreadfully allergic too and I'm not sure there is room in the truck for both of us. My luck Jack would get the walltent and stove and I'd ahve to sleep under a tree. :) I need to figure out a lot of logistics first. Now that I have one good tag, I should draw another one. I'm hopeing NM sheep, or Montana goat.
-
Its pretty cool that half of those road signs are ELK CROSSING or MULEDEER (not the scrawny whitetail ones this state has) crossing signs.
-
Lots of 2-legged deer in Vegas; good luck with your hunt!
-
Good luck bone. That hunt is pretty much the entire month of november if I remember right.

Yeah, cause sleeping under a tree is a real inconvenience for you......... ;)
-
:chuckle: Guess that kind of is my personality. THANKS everyone. I'm still shocked. The hunt is 20 days. Last year had 13 non res tags with 0% success rate. I guess they saw a pile of deer....not sure what happened there. :yike:
-
I think there are some big sheep in the Ruby;s and some whopper bucks there can be some weather in november. Bone will bring back a big one for us to see.

-
Congrats Doug, man I can't wait to see pics of that trip  You will share right :dunno: Good luck to ya!!!!
-
congrats I cant wait to see all the pics. you may need to get a lap top to keep us all posted ;)
-
My buddy hunted the Ruby's last year on a guided hunt. He and his dad both shot decent bucks. Hunted Pasayten high buck with him a few years earlier- he said the ruby's were much less rugged, and the terrain was fairly open... trying to find the picks... will post if I can find them...
-
Rubys
-
Thats awesome stuff right there. THANKS Dansk! I assume I'll be in the lower country that time of year I am hoping that the high country gets hammered and funnels all those babies right into my lap. I'm going to have lots of back up plans though. Considering I don't hardly have a clue at this point. Thanks again for those pics. Salivating!!! Nice buck too.
-
I have seen some pigs come outta the rubys

Check out this video from the spring count in your area Bone...... :o
-
WOW. Looks like bone needs a helicopter.
-
Dang, thats a pile of deer.
-
:yike: man i guess
-
I think there might be one or two good ones :dunno:
-
Glad you drew a tag! Cant wait to hear about your hunt!
-
My Dad and I got drawn for the Ruby Mts. about 10 years ago, but we were archery hunting the late August hunt. Had a guy with horses drop us off quite a ways back up in there. Bucks were still in bachelor groups, awesome area and if the snow flies for ya it should be a stellar hunt. I'll ask my dad if he still has some pics saved somewhere.
-
that would be Awesome. I'm sure I'll be in the lower country by then but it would all be cool to see, especially any game that game out of the region. I hope you find some to post.
-
Like someone said Bone, either kill or at least get a good pic of a Himalayan snow cock.... I guess its the only place around that has them? :dunno: Cool birds.....
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gbwf.org%2Ffrancolin%2Fimages%2Fsnowcock01.jpg&hash=578a98e78fccc95fdca1ddc7c25c5e1b09a4701b) now after seeing them...I bet you try to catch a couple and bring them home!!! :chuckle:
-
Id love to shoot one....
-
:chuckle:
-
DAMN....that is cool. YEP I'd love to have a couple added to the flock. Taxidermied or out in the pens.
-
I think they live above 10k feet.. cool birds
-
that might be a little nasty around the end of November
-
Those are damn cool birds. Maybe Bone you could the first to take one with that Sapphire and a flu-flu! Might wanna pack a flu-flu just in case.
-
Mind if I ask how many points you had Bone? I've been banking points in NV and setting on 7 for everything. Just trying to decide what to use them on.
-
i am sure you will have a great hunt and can't wait to see the pics
-
Congrats Bone! Can't wait to hear what your experience is over there. Wasn't there an article in Eastmans a few months ago about a father and son that shot a couple of pigs in the Ruby's? Sounds like a helluva hunt...

I think it was in the bowhunters journal about 5 months ago. Nice bucks too.
-
I think I had 4 points. Maybe 5. I figured I was just coming into the running, especially for a bow hunt. COOL, I was just about to dig into past issues. NOW I really will.
-
Just checked Bone, it's in the Jan-Feb issue.
-
Holy *censored*e that's a lot of deer. And I thought I had the most understanding wife in the World.....
-
Now that Washington has finally *censored* around, this hunt is looking BETTER and BETTER. OTC Idaho is looking good too.
-
I still think you've got the coolest tag on here Bone.....maybe Jackelope's comes pretty close, but your tag includes an adventure with it!
-
Only have this picture from the area...
-
Only have this picture from the area...
I think he drew some higher country Littledave. Up in the Ruby's I believe.
-
High country in the background. Picture was a few minutes before 3, so were a little east of Elko on I-80. We crossed the range on route 229. Stopped on the grade to change and feed the kid. I didn't take a picture from that point, but I remember it pretty good. Should be a fun hunt. We turned off the state route to Ruby Valley Road, probably a bit too rough for the wife's car.
-
I think the article in Eastmans was the Rubys in Montana if i rememeber right.
-

No, Rubies in NV. Eastman's Bowhunting Journal#57, Jan/Feb 2010, Page 16.
-
Damn, now I need to find that issue.
-
Nice bone, wish I could help you, but I don't know nuttin about nevada, you'll figure it out though...
-
I bought a bunch of maps. The hunt area is HUGE. Its multiple units all rolled into one. I usually buy a bunch of USGS maps prior to every hunt, but I don't have that much coin for this one. It would be over $1000 in maps. I got some BLM ones that are sort of topographical. I have a feeling I'll be hunting the sage or lower country around those giant mountains. I think the hardest thing is to get onto a buck once you find one. I might have to extend my range. Still wanting to do longbow or Trad.
-
Its interesting the different opinions from folks about a given area about a hunt. I had a bunch of guys from nevada trying to talk me into turning the tag in. They thought the hunt was worthless. I was actually beginning to wonder what I got myself into. Then some other guys that live there chagned my mindset, then I got this pic, of a buck from a guy in California with my tag. I would shoot him in a heartbeat.....

pass......
nevada is special im tellin ya....
-
I shouldn't post pics of bucks like that in my thread because my puny little buck might look pitiful. LOL
-
Looks like tree trunks stuck onto his head. Awesome buck.
-
Thats a pig  Good luck killing something like that with your tag
-
If that don't get you excited I don't know what will!
-
I can send you a copy of the eastmans issue if you haven't found it yet.
-
The best help I can give...........You'll do your tag justice!! Good luck and I can wait to read the story and see the pictures of that big buck.
-
dreamingbig, I haven't found it. I think the wife must have gotten to it first. I'll pm you my address. THANKS
-
dreamingbig, I haven't found it. I think the wife must have gotten to it first.
That's why I keep my back issues at work... :chuckle:
-
I know you will kill hog for sure! Never listen to locals they don't know anything :chuckle:
-
I think they pretty much don't want the Non Residents to show up. They don't mind the money it brings in, but just assume we didn't shoot one of their dinks. :)
The way I am shooting right now, this could be interesting.
-
That should be a good hunt.
-
Bone,
Any story behind that big buck in the Pickup? I notice he's not cut into itty-bitty pieces, and the Ruby's are pretty remote. Private land buck maybe...? :dunno:
-
Most of the deer are out of the Ruby's by this late hunt. At least we hope. The guy is from california, and it must have been year before last becasue according to the harvest reports, no bucks were harvested in last years hunt. (second hand)
-
If you can get your hands on EBJ issue 57 (Jan/Feb 2010), there is a good article about a father son hunt that took place in the Ruby Mountains, they both got nice bucks. Just FYI
-
dreamingbig is sending it to me.
-
What's the latest on your NV preparation, scouting reports etc? Is your wife still gonna let you go?
-
Is your wife still gonna let you go?
:yeah: :chuckle:
-
Missed this thread Bone, but I can tell you you will have a great hunt. I lived in Round Mountain Nevada for 3 years and man I saw a Lot of huge mullies. Never got to hunt the area, was always busy in the fall. But I spent a lot of time in the mountains of central Nevada. Put in the effort as I know you will and you should have a great time.
-
So did Bone die on the hill somewhere???when was he expected back?? Rack was probably so big he has to clear a road out to get the dam buck out....
Bone...where are ya/? :chuckle:
-
Hes slummin around
-
He probably is busy boning out his WA monster buck :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
:chuckle:
I feel like the mountain boned me out. Couldn't find the one worth notching the tag for here.
I haven't hardly looked at Nevada. Believe it or not I am not that stoked. I SHOULD be, but with kids sports and everything and I am normally doing photography. I haven't gotten my tag in the mail and I should have by now. I need to follow through with that the first of this week.
-
We just thought you had forgotten those of us that live vicariously through others :)
-
????
-
I didn't go Joe von.
-
WTF do you have to much venison? Or did you burn up you vacation?
-
finances, family issues, time committment etc.
-
Damn Bone I hope those don't get in the way if you draw NM, Utah, Wy, AZ, Co,etc. :chuckle:
-
They are getting in the way of applying for some for some of them now, let alone hunting them. :(
-
Yea I am getting ready to put in my Alaska special permits.
-
I was headed up again, but probably will postpone another year.
-
I can't seem to get enough of the place. Would be nice to draw a TOK sheep tag.
-
Aint that the truth. I wish they'd lift the NR requirements like they did for moose. Then I could do it. I also wouldn't mind that TOK elk permit, but I think its Resident only

When did they lift the NR requirements for moose?
