Title: Tripods
Post by: elksnout on May 28, 2010, 06:39:49 PM
Does anyone have suggestions for a decent tripod ? One that could be packed along and not weigh a ton so it's not just left behind. I have an older Gitzo and it's very stable but man is it heavy. I feel a tripod needs to be stable but there are a lot of newer materials out there. Not quite sure where to start.

id be interested in hearing this too... i have a 20 year old Bogen that is dang solid and a 10 yr old ??? that shakes if you breath too hard by it... I'd like to have something in the middle...but I think the Bogen is probably the ticket still... I'd like to get one of those pistol grips for it though!

The Gitzo & Manfrotto carbon fiber are popular for being lighter than the aluminum models and maybe less vibration. They do cost more. There are knock offs but rumored they can have problems so beware.
I really like my Manfrotto aluminum for the features but am thinking of upgrading also. Let us know what you get.

I have Gitzo and Bogen with ballheads, a bit heavy, but rock solid.  worth carrying the extra weight.

Vangaurd make a full pro line of tripods. Quality would be comparable to Bogen at half the cost. Glazers in Seattle stocks the full line.
