in 2006 my father (the lucky dog) drew the Nov. Selah Butte sheep hunt with 8 pt. (see there is hope :chuckle:) so we scouted, talked to biologist, study any info we could find on sheep to prepear for this OLH. during our pre hunt scouting we view several nice shooter rams, three hangers and two monsters. the first monster we named baseball bat because one of his horns was broke off at 1/2 curl and it look like the end of a bat. the second we named tagout he was the only sheep we saw with a tag in his ear he look to be full curl ram with chips out of his horns and a scar on his face. so when the hunt came and i got to be my dads Sherpa :hunter:we spent are first few days looking for the hawgs with no luck. we saw lots of sheep the rams were chasing the ewes and let me tell you they can cover some steep ground fast. day four started with my father showing signs of his age but a second wind blew when we spotted a big ram standing on ridge at a mile away. our plan was to work around the back side of the ridge then strait up and over. it was a tough clime steep loose rock, when we reached the top we saw a nice ram chasing a ewe over the next ridge not knowing if that was the ram we saw we decided to sit and watch just then at forty yards below us a ram walk out of the rimrock heading for drop off i threw up the glass saw the tag and said "SHOOT SHOOT ITS TAGOUT" by then the ram was about to jump down the chute i thew out a baaa. he look back and my dad made the shot with the 308. ;D he was the sheep of a lifetime on the hunt of a lifetime with my father. the biologist said they had not tag sheep in selah in twelve years we could only count nine growth rings but last few rings are so close they are hard to count he also said selah is not know for big sheep. tag out scored 169 B&C he had 7/8 curl with 15"+ bases that puts him in the top 10 California bighorn in washington st. a few tips for sheep hunting OPTICS ARE A MUST!!!!! IT sounds strange but younger rams horns look bigger because of the curve of the horn flares out as they age the horn gets tighter to the face. older rams also get a pronounced shoulder hump
