I've been doing some hiking lately and found an area tore up with bear sign, peeled trees and poo everywhere, so I set-up my trailcam with no attractants. I had bear(s) come in three times over a two day period but no good shots, just eyeballs, back of heads, sides, etc.

Too bad you didn't pick a different tree, that looks like a cool bear.
-
The tree I mounted it to was a perfect back scratcher and I think the bear(s) think so too. :chuckle:
Here is another where it jogged the camera.
-
good spot though :)
-
:chuckle: Good thing he didn't break your cam.
-
yeah if you did not have it in a box you are lucky it was not a new chew toy :yike:
-
from the angle i 'm seeing it looks like those ears are reaaaly small in comparison to the head, could be a huuuge bear!! congrats hope you get em!!!!

:chuckle: That's what I'm thinking. I would have it in a bear box if I was you. If he gets flashed... :bdid:

Looks like you found a good spot!
-
Chocolate! ;)
Good luck with it.

That is one of the things I have read to look out for, trees that stand out along roads and edges, they like to use them as "marker" trees.
A bear will rub its scent on it to announce its presence, kind of like a deer scrape... :dunno:
-
I think you're onto something there, he'll make a nice rug.
-
good spot! get it on a new tree so we can get a real look at that bear!
-
I was up wandering in the hills this evening and ran into this guy. I was about 1.5 miles from my trailcam but I think this is one of the bears on the trail-cam. Too bad it wasn't hunting season, I got to within 50 yards of him.
-
He's making big poo piles.
-
I think he ate an armed hiker.... bet his rearend hurts after crappin out the pistol too. :P

:chuckle: :yeah: . Nice picture of the bear, Did he bust out or just wander off? :dunno:

Nice pics, pics of the back of the head look to be a good one. Mark

He busted but only because I gave him reason to. I was down in the grass getting my camera and gun ready (just in case), I did a little sneak to get close enough for decent pics. He kept wandering up the road towards me. After I got my pics and felt he was getting too close (about 40-50 yards at this point), I stood up and gave him a yell. He stood straight up, did a 180, and ran.

Your lucky the bear didn't make off with the camera. Cool pics though.
-
nice pics , were you using coverscent?
-
Good pics, looks like a pretty good sized bear.

No cover scent, just had a favorable wind.

I went back last Thursday and found a dead battery and no pics. I went again last night and switched cards again. The bears are getting more cooperative. I put a salt/mineral block back behind where the bears are standing hoping to get some deer/elk action but I think the bears are ruling the mountain right now.

that black one has some booty going on..come fall gonna be a belly dragger
-
Good bears. Salt lick? :crap: Looks like someone crapped there to me :twocents: And left the TP!!! :chuckle: Whatever it is..I think the bears like that spot.
-
Wow!!!

The white object is part of an old plastic container, probably a bar oil jug.

Nice pics!!! Good luck come this fall!!!

I checked the camera yesterday and nothing. No fresh poo or other sign. I located it just below the snow line but now that line has moved up the mountain, I think the bears moved with it. I pulled the camera and will wait until we get closer to Aug 1. :hunter:
