So my boy is about to get his first BB gun for his birthday. I was wondering if anyone has opinions on which one to buy. I would like to buy a smaller sized one being that he will turn 4 years old. I have seen some that are one pump and others that are multiple pump shots and think that the one pumps would work best now. Prices isn't really an issue, but I don't think I should pay over $100 for aBB gun, but then again I haven't bought one since I was a little kid. Thanks for the info.

they have some youth guns that are one break of the barrel and shoot about 500-700 feet per second at 4 i am not sure he could do it for sure and pumping takes a lot out of little ones. i would see if he could do the break open ones if not get one of the red rider style guns that is like a lever action one they are pretty good and a good strat for young ones hope this helps :hello:

I think every kid should have a Red Rider. My grandson is just turning 6 the RR is still a little long so still shoots with the butt in his arm pit. I got it for his 2nd bday and we were cocking it for him until he was a little over 4.

Red Ryder hands down for his first, the 70th anniversary is avail and would be cool to get, If i were you i would get one for him and one for you, then you can shoot next to him with the same gun.
I still have mine, got it when i was 6..

Yeah, thanks for the input and I agree with you all on the 70th aniversary red Rider BB gun. He is a pretty big kid, so I think he will be able to pump it himself, but we will see.

i have a multiple pump that i got at 6 or 7. i wouldnt buy a multiple shot if i were you. :bdid: :bdid: i think it would be easier just to get a red ryder BB gun. :dunno: :dunno:

If he's 4, he won't be shooting it on his own I am guessing, so I don't think it matters how many pumps or whether or not he can load it himself. Pellets are a lot more accurate than BBs.

Well, his birthday was a sucess. He got himself a Red Rider BB gun, which was the hit of the day. No, he is not doing anything alone. I was very proud of him being able to know where to keep the mizzle pointed, to keep his finger off the trigger until he is ready to shoot, and to keep the safety on when not shooting. He even is almost getting the iron sights a bit. He is was so excited to put his gun next to mine in the gun safe. Proud Dad!!

the red Ryder,crossman has a cheap one..those are great starts for gun handling,and safe practicing..But be careful,,40 brazzilion moms know they put eyes out..eye myself am two to two :chuckle:

I bet I put 20,000 BB's thru my Red Ryder. Still got both my eyes :chuckle: My bro suffered some bee stings in his backside while he was weeding the back flowerbeds though :rolleyes:

If he is turning 4 the Red Ryder will still be a little long for him. I would pick him up the Buck. It looks just like the Red Ryder but is several inches shorter. It will be perfect sized. Wal-Mart usually carries them for about $19-$21 dollars. When he hits 6 he will be ready for the Red Ryder or other air guns as he can accomodate the longer stocks.
The bottom one is the buck BB gun. The one above it is the Red Ryder.
