I am planning on getting a new pump shotgun for ducks and geese. What does everyone recommend? I am looking into the Benelli Nova. Any other opinions?
-
I have 2 Browning BPS Stalkers. 3 1/2" 12 ga and a 10 ga. They are nice with the bottom eject, shoot right or left hand and don't throw shells at your hunting partners in the blind.
-
The nova is a great gun that is what I shoot. You cant beat it for the money.
-
i switched from the 870 to a browning bps and love it a little more money but you might check them out they are sweet.
-
Ok ill go with that, you dont want to start a 4 page argument (discussion) with Carp :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

A 870 is a good gun for the money. I would stay away from the new pump gun from Remington. I have heard some bad things about them.
-
870 or the nova.
i love the heck out of my nova. i've seen many other guns quit working next to it in the blind.
-
I was leaning towards the Benelli Nova in Max-4... sounds like that is the most liked gun of all... anyone have any good arguments against? ha ha :chuckle:

That just takes the fun out of it... :chuckle:
-
side eject is a lot more fun, look what tom knapp does with his nova, about 50 second into the video.

Avoid the Remington 870 Express, unless you like to spend your hunting time digging out jammed shell cases.

never heard of that happening consistantly with the 870.

Well that’s my personal experience with the model. Also my observation at the trap range; whenever someone has a jammed shell, 9 times out 10 it is in an 870. My discussions with the trappers confirm this.
Sorry, I know the model has a wide following but the 870 Express is a known jammer.
I owned an 870 for half a season and it jammed more times than I care to remember. I’ve owned an Ithaca 37 for over 40 years, thousands of rounds through it, and it has never jammed, not once. There is no reason for a pump to ever jam.
-
Another vote for the Nova and 870. But do not buy the "SuperNova" waste of money and I personally like the Nova better anyways. If you buy the 870 I would save a little and buy a wingmaster. Good luck.

interested
ever find any direct cause from poor part or machining?

I have 2 BPS's. Owned them both for over 20 years. Wouldn't own anything else.

870 wingmaster.

870 wingmaster.
:yeah:

i would be curious to know what the cause of it jamming was :dunno: i have had my 870 express for around 10 years now and cant remember it jamming a single time. i wonder if they tweeked something in the newer versions that caused this to happen???
-
i've got 2 new 870 express (12 and 20) and have experiance with 2(12 and 20) others owned by other people and no jamming what so ever. even shot those cheapo winchester universals and no problems my vote is an 870

:)10,000,000 870s can't be wrong, yup that is right 10 million.

Sure.... Rattly/noisy when walking with it over your shoulder (I use mine for turkey as well as waterfowl). Also, 3 1/2" is a looong stroke for the slide. The finish has rubbed off where mine sat on the woodenboat seat. Also don't like the safety in front of the trigger since I was used to my 870 safety location.
The release button is nice to replace the first round without having to cycle all of them.
I wish I had gotten another Wingmaster.

The only reason that i've seen an 870 jam was when people were shooting 2 3/4" shells out of the Super Magnum. For some reason they jam occasionally then. But other than that I have to agree that they're pretty bullet proof.
