-
Rem 700 SPS SS, 270 Win, 3.5-10x40 :)

Isn't a "what if..." this is my one and only
-
first welcome to the site, there is a intro's area you might stop by and tell us about yourself.
my sako 75 custom 300win mag vxIII 4.5-14 40 get it done any day of the week on anything that walks around here and many other places as well
-
what? with a name like tony270 wsm you would think it would be a 270 wsm not just a winchester :chuckle:
-
300rum( 3x9 at least) can do it all
-
I downsized :)
-
Rem 700 XCR in 7mm with a VX3 4.5X14X50 on it.
-
sako 75 in 9.3x62 with a schmidt&Bender 2.5-10x56.
light fast bullets get blown around by the wind. heavy bullets are consistant and always hit like a freight train.

kel tec RFB 308/7.62 I've got one and I love it not really a "black gun" guy.... but this baby ROCKS
-
I'll go with my current outfit, Wea300mag with Leupold VXIII 3.5-10x50
-
on a side note, generally the minimum caliber for cape buffalo is 375 but there are exceptions mad for 9.3 as it is .366.
-
I say 338 win mag with a 4.5-14x50. Shot the 180gr accubonds for deer and the 225gr accubond for everything else.
-
Remington 700p in 308 chopped down to 20".Tac ops bolt knob.HS precision bottom metal with detachable mag.Leupold mark4 base and rings.Mark4 3.5-10 40 mm scope with m1 knobs. Not the most practical hunting rifle but if I had to get rid of all my guns but one this is the one I would keep.
-
nice looking gun but why the chop?
-
how many barrels can I have?
I'll stick with my T/C Encore with the 28" 300 win mag barrel. I would like to upgrade the glass to a Leupold...a VXII 4-12 or something along those lines.
-
If I was to only use one gun for all the hunting for the rest of my life it would be a Rem. 700 in 7mm Mag.
I use the 7mag most anyway and feel its covers about any hunting situation I'll be in just fine.
-
Im kinda partial to my Ruger #1.25-06. It does just fine for anything in this state.
-
I use a 7mm Remington Mag with 160 gr Accubonds.
If I could do it over again I woud probably shoot the .300 WSM.

nice looking gun but why the chop?
I originally got the gun for target shooting and got in to hunting later on.After a season of hiking around with a 26" bull barrel I decided to make it lighter since 308 still performs well with a shorter barrel.

300 WIN MAG :dunno: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
30-06 3x9 leupold..plenty of gun,plenty of options
-
I would go with what I've got: Browning A bolt in 270 Win. with a 3.5-10x40 Leupold scope. I already do use it for deer, elk, and bear. I do have a 30-06 and a 243 but they mostly just sit in the safe.
-
Remington or Springfield built mid serial number 03-A3 action with Timney sporter trigger and aftermarket iSS fluted 20" bullbarrel chambered in 30-06 Ackley Improved. Sako floor plate with detachable magazine. It would have Williams peep rear with ghost ring & post front iron sights and a B-Square scope mount and some sort of Leup'y 3-9x50ish with tactical retical. Composite sporter stock with adjustable cheek piece and Packmaier decelorator recoil system. Glass/Pillar bedded.
I could also go with a Winchester built or late model Springfield M1 Garand with a lighter sporter composite stock with adjustable cheek piece. Glass/pillar bedded. Oh... a target barrel, a few other upgrades to trigger and ejector and such. Similar peep/iron sights with an option for glass.
Depending on the state of the world, I could also be pleased with an M14NM or M25 Sniper rifle (308win).

I take an elk and deer most every year with a Levergun of some sort. I like eatin' right up to the bullet hole so it needs to be a big bore that is cast bullet friendly.
The longer I sit here and think about it the more torn I am. Either the '86 in 45-70, the 71 in .348 or else the 24" Marlin Cowboy in .44. All 3 have taken deer and elk for me and all 3 are close to my heart.
Can't make up my mind.... :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I'd stick with my Ruger 77 all weather with the old boat paddle stock in 300win mag. Has the older style Vari XIII on it in 3x9x40. Had it since '93 and it's dumped a lot of game. Hand loaded with 180gr swift scirocco's, nothing on this continent I'd be scared to hunt with it.
-
If you could only have on gun, I'd take a Savage Combo. 20 GA Shotgun and .223 rifle in one gun. It is a single shot gun, built like an OU. The top barrel is the rifle and the bottom barrel is the shotgun. Put a nice scope on it and you can take anything out there.
-
30-06 3x9 leupold..plenty of gun,plenty of options
Mee too ;) 700 Rem 30-06 3x9 Leupold

those are far more popular over here and come in amazing combinations. almost any combo you could think of. its called a bockbuchseflinte

Thanks for the quick responses guys and sorry about not giving an introduction. I'm active duty military I got stationed here about 2 months ago. I grew up hunting, fishing and trapping in Michigan.
-
I'd cry if i had only one rifle. :'( :'( :'(
-
It's not an "if" for me. ;) I already only own only 1 rifle for deer/elk, and eventually I plan to use it for bear as well. It's a stevens 200 .30-06 with a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 scope. If money were not a factor I would probably go with some uber expensive high end rifle and scope, but I would stay with the same chambering. Personally I don't see the need to pound my shoulder any harder than the .30-06. Maybe some day if I decide I want to hunt anything bigger or more dangerous than bear I might go for something that packs more oomph though.
-
One rifle the caliber would be 338 Win mag..
-
I love lever guns and magnum's, so my gun of choice is my BLR lightweight stainless 300 WSM with a VXL 3.5-10 x 50.
-
.338
-
all I have right now is one rifle so I guess it is my choice :dunno:... 7mmoh8 ruger hawkeye stainless with a riflebasix trigger and a nikon prostaff scope..... so far it shoots paper just fine :bash: :bash:
-
Browning A-bolt in 30-06, lupy fixed 6x, nothing fancy. Just functional.
-
.300 win mag with a leupold. I loved it so much I got 2.
:chuckle:
-
my 300 tikka. its why i bought it,to do everything big game wise. Ive got plenty others but that's the go to. and i could care less if it gets beat up, in fact i like it better like that. oh and its a tack driver.
-
Tikka T3 Lite in 300 WSM with a Leupold VXIII 3-9x40 for me.
-

Thank you for your service and welcome to the site. :hello:
-
I would have to go with my Browning A-Bolt II hunter in .325WSM with it's Leupold 2.5-8x36 VXIII shooting 220gr powerpoints.
-
REM 700 XCR stainless in 7MM mag
Nice shooter

.30 caliber model 1906
I went through the magnum phase. I had a .338,7mm,.300WSM. They've all come and they've all gone.
Shoot 'em in the vitals and the '06 kills as well as any.
Shoot 'em in the guts with a .338 and you'll still be chasing them cross country.
Cheaper ammo, less recoil and lighter rifles. Whats not to like about the '06?
-
30-06 3x9 leupold..plenty of gun,plenty of options
Me too. I'm surprised there aren't more of these
-
winchester model 88 308 leupold 3x9
-
I used to kill everything with a 30-06. Then I got the bug and decided I needed one of each caliber. 30-06 is tried and true. It will do the job on everything. A .243 used to be able to do most that work as well.
-

yeah but the 223 is not enough gun for big game legally in this state
-
yeah they make several models like a 22 410/ 223 20g/ 30-06 12g etc
-
i've got the 30-30 20ga, nice for the pickup
-
I'll take my old skool M77 tang safety 7mm RM with it's 3x9AO VX II.
That rifles dumped alot of deer and elk for me.
It's 30th birthday is coming up next month.
The pre 64 Model 70 264wm is very close 2nd choice.
-
marlin 30-30 w/ factory sites is all you really need
-
I'll take Caliber .30, of 1906 thanks. Likely chambered in a Winchester Featherweight. Depends on how badly I'm going to be treating it...I'd TAKE my 1951 version...or my late 1990s Stainless Classic in the compost stock. Both shoot well (and with the same load no less) so its a choice between esthetics or utility....dang... the 30-06 will take everything from varmints to big bears...anything that walks this or most other continents. given some of the modern bullet choices..the range is extended even farther... but i STILL like my pet load...165 grain Nosler Flat Base (anyone HAVE any of those left...my 2000 is almost gone) on top of a charge of H4350 lit with a Winchester LR primer.
Only ONE? :yike:
