any opinions on this bow, the Bear, Charge. been 15 years since i shot a bow, and saw this at cabelas
-
just buy a hoyt :chuckle:
-
Buy a Mathews
-
i will do my best to answer and not try to steer you away like the other :chuckle: i have shot the bow and for bear bows i say it is 3rd best bear bow that i have shot. i like the truth 2 the best. it is a decent bow and shoots pretty good. fairly smooth not bad on vib decent bow. hope this helps
-
I've shot a truth 2. My next bow will be a Mathews. :twocents:
-
man are you guys thread jacking or what >:( he asked about a bow not what bow you will be buying :chuckle: i own 10 brands of bows as of right now and i am die hard pse fan but i am not going to try to take over the thread. if you have not shot the charge you don't need to add your 2 cents. what i said is i have shot the truth 2 and think it to be a little better then the charge. and anyone wants to take a look at the score board matthews is still chasin PSE ARCHERY so catch us if you can lol :P

Trying to offer an overall opinion of Bear bows. If there top of the line bow is a POS IMO, what makes me think one of their other bows will be any better? :dunno:

how is that a overall opinion of there bows? we are not comapring them if you did not like the bow he is talking about tell us why and for the record bear bows in one of the bows i will not own myself and i own a lot of bows so i am not sticking up for bear bows because i do not care for them but giving info on what i thought
-
Thanks carp, main reason for my question is a friend just bought one. not that he knows anything its his first bow. i'm just trying not to spend too much, looking for 60lbs and better than 260 fps, quiet smooth and accurate, but lol, isn't that what we all want. back in the day 35 yards was considered long, not sure if todays gear is more accurate or todays archer is just a little more of a risktaker.
-
no prob glad to help. and the killing power of the new bows and the speed and ke has went up and group sizes shrank but you hit the nail on the head a lot of archers think just because there bow can shoot that far means they can as well :chuckle: i spend hundreds of hours shooting my hunting bow/ and other bows all year long and i shoot a very high speed high poundage draw and shoot farther then most people feel commfy at but it is up to each archer to find there effective range and respect that range most is 40 yards and under and thats just fine. the bears won't break the bank and they are decent for the money.

I have shot the truth 1 which my cousin owns and have shot the truth 2. I have not shot any of the new bows this year
Out of the two that I've shot I liked the truth 1 more just felt better in my hand
I didn't like the grip on the truth 2. I think the bow will get the job done for you if that's the one you like but I would shoot as many bows as you can before buying one
You could even look at a used top of the line bow that is a year or two old and save yourself some coin
-
Buy a HOYT
-
I hate people that knock other bow brands, all the decent brands are very good and will kill an animal easily if the shooter knows what he is doing. Even parker bows are very accurate.
-
found a destroyer for 350 is that a good deal, lol jk. i have been looking a craigs list for a while any other sources i might try for a good used bow. cg seems to have a shady bow or two around.
-
you might check the classifieds on here not sure what is in there right now :dunno:

I've shot a Hoyt before. :chuckle:
How is that relevant, you ask? Well, it's not.
Actually, I know from other threads that Carp has a lot of bows. Good advice from him - he has the experience to be able to compare brands/models.
-
thanks for the very kind words halflife65 very nice of you and most people know on here that even though i have my fave brand i just love archery and like to help there is very few brands that i have not owned and very few new bows that i have not shot. just like to answer the question and try to help those wondering about a certain bow. :hello:
-
i just found a site it ends up kicking you to ebay but it is all archery stuff its called nockit.com not a bad site good luck
-
My advice is to keep looking for a better/used bow. They are out there. I bought a Mission X-3 ready to shoot, for my brother this past winter. I paid $225 for it. But you should be going to different shops and shoot their bows. Get a feel for what you like.
-
yeah, thanks all, leaning towards a quality used one as mentioned. my only concern with that is the age old question, why are you selling it, either shoots bad or something else, bad limb etc, so i guess causion is the word.
-
there is a lot of people that sell perfect bows just because they want a newer bow or the latest model of what ever there fave brand is. so there is some good bows out there as well. if you have any question feel free to pm me or ask about certain bows or models as well. always glad to help
-
thanks Carp.
-
I have an O7 hoyt vectrix that I'm selling because I bout a new one. What's your draw length? ;) :D
-
check the classifieds at archerytalk.com
The way bows depreciate in price I would buy a used one if you're trying to save money. Maybe have a pro shop give it a once over first.
-
Gearhead, Bear makes a pretty fair bow in my opinion. I haven't shot the Chrage, but have shot the Truth 1 and 2. Both were pretty good bows and at the price point I would say were a good deal. If you like the way it feels in your hand, and how it shoots. I think the Charge would be a pretty good bow for the price.
That being said, I think you could spend the same amount on a 1-2 year old used bow that is a better bow.
-
Thanks again all. btw, i think my draw as i recall it is 29. atleast it was when i was 27, now i'm 44, maybe i shrunk, lol

mision ftw. best bow for the price. drifterat with probly attest to that statment. mission makes a hellava bow. not speed demons but they stack up in every other catagory compared to the topline bows. im pushing a 455grn arrow at about 275 at 70 lbs 29' draw. very smooth drawing bow. when buying a new bow you owe it to yourself to check out all makes and models. a good bow thats fits you well with last you a life time(if taken care of properly)
-
thx again all, if i do by new leaning on the bear charge, just the bow, then adding my better accessories than the package offers, or maybe buying the pse bowmadness/package at cabelas.
-
Shoot the g5 primal when your at bellas it swayed us away from the pse and the bear.
-
ive owned quit a few different brands of bows including bear. To me its what ever fits and is comfortable to you. shoot them all before you buy. my brother inlaw sold his mathews legacy and bought the truth 2 i told him he was crazy until i seen how much better he could shoot the bear. And BTW i just bought a xforce on craigslist fully loaded for 450 and its in good shape and shoots great so there are some good deals to be had on there
-
Well, i bought a Stryker from Cabelas. i saw that they had two truth 2 bows but both left handed. i looked at the stryker, and it seemed to be the very same bow, just a different name. it seems to shoot good, anything is an improvement over my 17 year old Browning. gonna be the first year in 15, that i have bow hunted, Got the Multi season tag for both deer and elk, so gonna be busy this year.
