You could put one of those 1 piece bases that is a rail type mount and then put the rings anywhere you want on it, but they always seemed to be kinda cumbersome for a hunting rifle to me. Makes the access to the chamber that much tighter. I never liked them, I'm sure there's other opinions on them better than mine though.
i had had to do this. never had any problems. :dunno:

Questions: Did you have to re-drill the single piece base and does not the cartridge eject into your scope? Seems like it would. What model is your Savage?

All bolt action rifles will eject sideways so the brass TYPICALLY does not hit the scope. Most rifle companies will make sure if one uses a one piece base the gun will function correctly.
Sometimes when mounting scopes (and I mount about 20 per week and more as hunting season comes up) I have to mount the bases on backwards so there is less distance between each other. Even on short tubed scopes we can make Leupold two piece bases and rings work, like I said, just mount them backwards, front still goes on front, and rear still to rear, but backwards.

Some manufactures such as Redfield, sometimes Simmons, and a few other will make shorter tubes for making YOU think that you have better field of view (FOV) and better light transmission. Well I have noticed that you get worse or the same light transmission than with longer tubes, and the FOV is in fact better BUT out outside edges of the Scope is not clear. So, you typically get a scope where the area the you can see clearly is actually a smaller area and in my mind give you a smaller FOV. If that makes since to you all.
Anyone agree with me...Disagree????

Again I do prefer Leupold bases and rings, and its notched to give more room for the cartridge to eject...but not sure if the one piece come in a lefty model? :dunno: Another reason I like there bases and rings is they somewhat act as a quick detach. I do however prefer Nikon scopes!! ;)

WOW...the tube on that scope is really short.
It is a really good scope though. Best I've owned, night and day brightness comparison to my Nikon and I really like my Nikon.
