My Griffon pup has an ear infection I CANNOT get rid of. He's been to the vets twice, they are giving me a cleansing solution and some ear drops, not working. I am going to take him to a different vet this week, but wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations for a hard to get rid of ear infections. Thanks for any suggestions.
I've heard of a few bad ones this year for some reason. Don't mess around unless you want a prematurely deaf dog- Get him on antibiotics asap. My friends' chessie has been trying to kick one for over a month and been on a tough antibiotic regimen. Not sure whats' up with it. Dry them off and use the ear dry solution all the time once their prone to infections....PITA!

Can't you put Hydrogen peroxide in the ear to help loosen/disinfect dogs ears?
I don't think peroxide is recommended to be used on anything on dogs other than to make them puke. For daily ear wash use a couple teaspoons of distilled vinegar in 8oz of warm water. Save your ear wash bottles you get from the vet. They're handy to re-use. Or, just buy ear wash at petco or something. Don't treat dog wounds with peroxide. It kills good tissue. Buy Betadine or Novalsan from the feed store(horse section) and use it in your own first aid kit. It works great, I use it on my own cuts all the time.
If your dog has an infection you can SMELL(hint of rotting flesh or worse) GO TO VET ASAP! If they're itching and scratching at it or shaking their head a lot, go to the vet. if just a little red and slightly irritated looking and dog doesn't seem to mind it, try over the counter stuff.

Apple cider vinegar / water 50/50 mix. Use a little atomizer bottle and pray the ear real good and let the dog share the excess out. Then use a tissue and wipe out his ear. Do that once or twice a day for a ew days.
you sure about the apple cider? I think you're only supposed to use clear distilled. Apple cider is flavored and sweetened artificially I believe.

Pup got the all clear today on both ears. Thursday he looses his jewels. Shssh don't tell him.
