I really want to keep this contest alive. Its a way to give back and have a little fun doing it.
I believe Actionshooter just recieved the travelling plaque. BTKR posted a story of a kid in need of funds to go to the world championships for archery. His profile is a little different than what we have supported in the past. After several inquiries, I think he is the perfect candidate for this charity. I can't think of a better young man for a site dedicated to the men and woman of the outdoors to support. Meet the recipient of this years Joshua Cup.....

Local archer Sean Elza qualified for the World Team Archery Championships in Hungary next month, after winning the National Archery Association Field Nationals and taking first place in the World Team Trials.
He needed to raise four thousand dollars to travel overseas to compete for Team USA, and has already raised more than half of that.
Details of the contest:
Here's the contest......$20 to enter for ALL of your Non-resident/out of state hunts(one fee covers all hunts). Send the money via paypal to massivemuleys@fairpoint.net which is our Huntwa account and I'll keep track of the funds to make a bulk payment to our sponsored soul, or contact me via pm and I'll give you my address and you can mail me a check. Some funds will be lost to fees if paypal is used, not much but some. I will collect the funds and about once a week or so, I will send the money to our sponsored soul . Those that enter will be listed in this sticky thread . Currently there is no prize for winning the contest, but we are working on something. Right now its just to help someone, and some bragging rights. THERE IS A TRAVELLING TROPHY, and if actionshooter is so kind, he can get a closeup of it maybe and I'll add it tothis thread.
-The contest will begin with the up and coming seasons 2009 license year. The contest will end midnite Dec 31st. Some seasons will not have run yet or may still be open, but the contest is over at this time.
-Any animal recognized and measured by Pope and Young or Boone and Crocket will be eligible.
-The animals scores will be compared to the world record of each animal for each method of collection and for each category nontyp/typical etc. The score will be turned into a ratio and the one closest to the New world record, or the one that beats the new world record by the largest score. WINS
-Anyone that is hunting a Non-resident hunt is eligible. That means if you are from Montana and hunting Idaho, you are eligible. If you are from Texas and hunting Colorado, you are eligible. If you are from Washington, the animal must be from out of state. Washington state hunters that are interested in donating but are not going out of state can "enter" the contest just for the posterity of it.
Entrys will be judged on the honor system by the Boone and Crockett club or Popes, scoring system. These MUST be fairchase hunts as outlined by those scoring systems.
Similiar to the Washington contest, I would like a committee of judges to be formed. These judges are eligible for the contest. They reserve the right to reject a trophy if an issue arrives or have it measured by another party. (Where's the lawyer, this is a pain to write) If one of the committee members trophies is in the top three, then they will be replaced with another member to take their spot on the committee. The committee will reserve the right to reques tthe top three entries to be officially measured if it is necessary. Sometimes a clear victor rules out the necessity of this step. The officail score sheets will need to be posted prior to the first of March.
The committee reserves the right to adjust or add rules during the contest if needed.
I was going to put a deadline on when your funds needed to be in for the contest, but since this is an honor system, at this time I would like to keep the contest open for more applicants if possible as this is a fund raiser. Funds must be entered prior to the hunt or it will not count. PLEASE have your funds in prior to hunting. You must have your application in before harvesting in order tfor the animal to be eligible for entry into the contest.
Currently, myself, and Robodad will be committee members. If our sponsored soul becomes a Millionaire and is no longer in need of funds, then the committe will reserve the right to help out someone else in misfortune.
If you send me a check, please make sure you note your online name somewhere so I can track it down.
-
I'm in again this year since it's a good cause. I never kill anything, so I'm no threat of getting a trophy.
-
Cool! This year I might have a chance!! :)

My stupid cursor was driving me nuts so I had to move my entries to this spot. If there is a date after your name it means you've paid. Remember to mention who you are when you pay so its wasier for me to match it up.

I contacted Sean's mother via e-mail. What a delightful lady. Here is a portion of the communication. I hope they become members of the site and feel free to become active (if not already). I'd love to follow how he is doing. For now It will be up to us as members to limit how much we want to sponsor Sean in his endeavors. I hope he would also like to be part of the HUNTWA team as well as supporting TEAM USA!
My name is Sharmell Elza, I am Sean's mom. Thank you for taking your time to inquire about Sean and his fundraiser!
Wow! How exciting to hear that Sean's story is reaching others! He is an amazing, humble young man, always willing to help others and I believe this is why people have been so willing to help him! We just reached the goal amount stated by USA Archery.Although we are finding that there are a few above and beyond things that we were not told about. I am confident that I will be able to ask frined s and family to help pull the rest together that is necessary to get there and return! .
Thank you, again, for looking in to Sean's situation! Sean has been shooting really well but this came as a complete surprise, especially when he won and we were told he had a little over 3 weeks to come up with the money to be able to attend. Another archer, Mr. Timm Hines put up the initial $600 to secure his position or he would not have had the chance at all!
The past 18 months have been a huge struggle for our family, as it has for many! For us, it has been the biggest financial struggle of our lives. (It is coming around though!) We use to fund a few of Sean's tournament trips but for the past 2 years, Sean saves and works odd jobs to be able to attend the various competitions that have enabled him to get his name out there. He has worked so hard and we are hoping that a company or individual will see his hard work and accomplishments and would like to be his permanent sponsor.
Regarding the charity work you all do, please let us know if there is anything we can do to help! Sean stated he would love to help in any way he can. He is an excellent teacher and loves to help others learn the technique and to help them have fun. Please let us know if we can help in some way!
If you would like to talk to him, give him a call. He will return your call in between classes, work and practice! I promise! He is getting so excited and feels great about this tournament!
He said he would LOVE to have 5000 extra fans to cheer him on!
I'm not sure if you would like a couple pictures but I will attach them just incase.
Your site is wonderful! The photography is amazing! (I love to take pictures of our beautiful state and our family hunting and fishing!) The whole site is super user friendly and full of useful information! And...YES, Sean loves hunting! He shoots target and field tournaments and has numerous awards. He shot a few times when he was a boy scout (I was the archery range master) but didn't actually pick up a bow again until he was 15. That's when he started shooting local tournaments and winning. Let me know if you would be interested in hearing a little more about his adventures.
He received his USA Team uniform today! WOW!! I have attached a couple pics and one from NAA National's in Spokane where he won the #1 position to attend the World Championships.
Thanks again for taking the time to contact us!
GO Team USA! Go Sean Elza!
With much gratitude,
Sharmell Elza

Jameslong - send it via Paypal to massivemuleys@fairpoint.net. Or, contact boneaddict for mailing instructions.
NOTE TO ALL: If you transfer from a Paypal balance, and select "personal" rather than "purchase" - the default - and "gift", there are no fees deducted.

 My heart pales compared to the namesake. I just hope I can honor him. Glad you are in. Headed for another one of those Wisconsin Whities?
-
We just recieved a sizable donation from one of our most charitable members. I'm not sure if he wants to remain annonymous or not, as he is extremely humble. He has often been a supporter for this endeavor, and anything to do with the youth. THANK YOU SIR! At times we haven't seen eye to eye on things, but my hat is again tipped to you, as you always amaze me of your willingness to give and to help.
-
I've recieved two entries via paypal and I don't know who to give the credit too. Can you guys send me a pm telling me what your email is so I can match you up. I seem to lack the ability to see notes while here at work, so that might be the problem.
-
OK, I am confused. How do you send money via Paypal to an email address? I guess the only time I have ever used Paypal is on Ebay, and all I have to do is click on "next" to do it... :dunno:
What other methods of payment are there?

I don't really have much of either.... :dunno: Should I just send a check?

When you log into paypal you can "send money" through one of the tabs at the top of the page. Click on that and fill in the email address. Consider using the personal tab option as described by DOUBLELUNG.

Okay, I'll try to figure it out. I have only used it on Ebay, so I'm pretty clueless...

WELCOME :hello: I'm glad you got signed up.
Checks came in from Wackmaster, Rbenn and PNWhunter. Sux, did you send it by camel?
-
I just sent $300 to his paypal. Thanks for the support guys. Hopefully we can continue to add to his kitty. We (as in me) are a little slow in getting this contest going to help him, but I am sure he will have some credit cards to pay off, and will be shooting even more when this competetion is done, so the funds will definetely come in handy.
It sounds like he is boarding the plane to head to Hungary at 630 this morning. I am glad he took the time to get signed up before he left. Lets cheer him on.
-
Im signed up. I'll be hunting oregon and idaho.

Hello All!
This is Sean Elza's mom, Sharmell!
Our family would like to say "Thank You" to all of you who are helping Sean be able to compete in the World Field Archery Championships in Hungary! It was barely 4 weeks ago when Sean called and told me he had won the NAA Nationals and then he calmly told me he won the World Team Trials and made the USA Team to go to Hungary! After my screams of excitement, he then told me that there was no funding this year and the association stated he would need about $4000.00 dollars to make the trip. My heart fell in to my stomach. My head spun with thoughts of how we could make this happen with such little time. He then informed me that a fellow archer friend placed the $600.00 down payment on his credit card and we had to make it happen. Sean's friends held a carwash, other friends and family called the news stations and sent donations! With in a couple days he had enough to purchase the expedited passport and a little over a week later, enough for the $1400 airline ticket! We continued fundraising and a call I placed to Q13 was returned and they did a story on him! We raised $1000 from the newsbroadcast! Then there is the hotel, food, banquet, transportation, and the over $200 entry fee! Oh...then there's the above and beyond fees that no one mentioned, like the $43 power converter to be able to use his laptop for communication home! About 5 days ago, it seemed we had raised enough to get him there and back but then there was the panic that came from a returned $500 check!
I started making phone calls to see if there was anyone else willing to help. With only a week left, I didn't know if there would be enough!
When boneaddict contacted me and told me he would like to look in to Sean's situation a little further, I was overwhelmed with the feeling of hope. Many young archers have the professional backing and the means to travel from competition to competition, not Sean. He picks 1 or 2 tournaments in the states and works extra hours and other jobs to earn enough to get there. We use to be able to help him but like many others right now, we are in the worst financial situation we have ever experienced. We barely saved our house.
I am so thankful to all YOU wonderful people! It is because of good hearted people like you, that another talented young person gets the chance to do something wonderful in his life and possibly (yes, he will!) win a World Championship!
When he returns, he will be heading up to Darrington to compete in the NFAA Field nationals. Hope to see some of you there!
We are so excited to be a part of our new hunting family and look forward to communicating with all of you.
Sean and I will be posting results about the tournament daily!
Also... I love taking pictures of wildlife and our beautiful state. I told boneaddict I would like to donate a couple framed pics towards a prize. It's not much but they are nice to look at!
Packed and leaving at 4am!
Thanks again!
youngarcherysmomma and family :)

Welcome Sharmell!
We are pulling for you and for Sean. You'll find that good people are everywhere on here. We're a tight group with the outdoors as the common bond. Sean will fit in well here!
Sean, don't forget the best shot you can make at any tournament is when you let down and start over. Good luck man!! Do us proud!
Bone, payment sent via paypal for Idaho.
-
Welcome!
-
I'm glad we could all help your son.
-
Sharmell, great first post. Welcome to the site. A really good, supportive bunch here, along with some ... characters. Feel free to ask for the help Sean needs here - can't say you'll get it all, but I've been pretty amazed by some of the community I've seen demonstrated by some of the members. Most of us are from common backgrounds, think it is safe to say most all of us are proud of your son, even though we just met him.
-
well guys, I just got to my hotel in hungary the weather is awesome the hotel is beautiful, No shooting happening yet but I will be on as soon as we start shooting I will be posting and letting you guys know how its going!
-
GO SEAN. Good Shooting.
-
So today was the first offical practice. took me a couple ends to get warmed up after taking a couple days off but once I got warmed up the bow was shooting awesome and pounding the middle cannot wait for the first day of the tourny. we have another practice day tomorrow also to make sure that everything is still good to go. kinda wish they had a practice course set up but i guess then never do. the Practice field is great. Once again I want to thank all of you for your support. Ill be keeping you all updated
Thanks
Sean Elza
-
Best of luck Sean.
-
Good luck Sean. I had all these visions of how hard it was to travel to a foriegn country with a weapon. Wondered if your bow and arrows made it, wondered if you had to use their gear etc. It was amazing how often small things reminded me of you out there, so you are in our thoughts and prayers. Keep shoooting the middle out of everything.
-
Another nice donation from someone who isn't going to hunt but wanted to help out. THANK YOU NWWABOWHNTR!
-
Good luck young man. We're all behind ya'.
-
Good Luck Sean! See you at Darrington!
-
Hoping to hear good things in your next update Sean! Keep punching 'em!
-
No doubt. I hope you are shooting better than me. I punched a couple nice shots then all of a sudden one went way wrong. I still don't know what happened there.
-
Hey guys, we just got done with the qualifying round the last 2 days has been rough very hot and humid and intense steap hills but im sitting in first place after putting up good scores both days. -
Great job Sean! Keep it up!
-
Sean, it is awesome that you have shot well and are currently in first place. However, we would be nearly as proud if you were in the back of the pack facing elimination. Just to qualify for that level of competition is an amazing accomplishment! Congrats again!

Well................anybody shoot anything? I think we have at least one boone and crocket critter from out of state. Any pics from those who have entered?
-
not a booner :'( but had a great time and meat in the freezer
-
Bone, do you mean me? [smg id=9879] Tell me how to proceed. I green scored the antelope I killed at 84 0/8 gross/83 4/8 net B&C, on the day I killed him. Horns are in Rolling Hills, WY with my taxi, haven't been officially scored. I have no problem trying to get an official scoring done if that is the way to go.
-
Unless someone posts up another contending monster then You won't need to worry about having him officially scored . Thats an awesome critter. I'm glad you get to taxidermy him.
-
Yeah that's an awesome pronghorn. :hello:
-
Thanks guys. I got lucky!
-
Finally got him out of the box and temporarily hung up. Lousy light, cell phone pic. He didn't shrink.
-
I guess I'll let you hold onto the plaque for a bit longer since we aren't running the contest this year, at least as of yet. Nice LOPE DUDE!
