Title: Teanaway Late Rifle
Post by: fishunt247 on June 22, 2010, 07:36:43 PM
I'm not asking any of this blind or without knowing the area (or with this being my only research)...so my brother drew the Teanaway late rifle tag and I was wondering if anybody on here has drawn Teanaway deer tags before for any weapon? I've hunted and spent a lot of time in this unit over the past three years in the winter, spring, and fall. My brother and I have picked up two horns in this unit that would definitely be shooters. One buck was shot the following fall that scored 177" (I think...it would have scored in the low 160's the year I found it), and the other would have went 182" if the other side matched. I'll post the pics.

So I guess I'm just wondering what past tag holders saw or shot and what we can expect? How was access this time of year in the areas you hunted? If anybody would like to talk about areas they hunted I would love to chat on the phone. PM me and I'll send you my cell phone number. Thanks.

I've seen some bruisers up there. I used to hunt the Cle Elum are alot when i lived on the wet side. but i hunted early archery, the big boys might make themselves pretty scarce by late rifle.

With it being rut and with weather (hopefully) I wouldn't think bucks would be too scarce. Hopefully we catch a big one just right.

I wouldn't be too picky on what you shoot. The previous two winters were pretty hard on the deer over there. But hopefully you'll still be able to find a decent buck. My cousin had that permit year before last, and ended up with kind of a dink. And he's from there, and knows all the best areas.

I don't know about the past two winters being hard. I have lived in Ellensburg since 2007, and last winter I only had to shovel snow one time. Right now the snow is backed up into the Stuarts and has been for quite a while. He isn't going to hold out for a monster, but I think he'll wait for a good buck.

I wasn't talking about this last winter. It was as mild as they come. But the two winters previous to this last one. Both were bad. Not many deer left over there, from what I've seen, and heard from the locals.

Hmm...different info than I've received...and different from what I saw in the falls, winters, and springs since 2007. Maybe just the areas I was in. Maybe there was a "good ol' days" in the Teanaway before I arrived.

Well Josh with the luck that Josh(Onehorn) has he will probably get at least a 180'' buck.     :)    Good luck up there. I know a local taxidermist up there that I will talk to and see if I can get some info for you.

I agree with Bobcat. The last few winters have really done damage to the deer population. I think that and the combo of more and more people hunting in there have forced the deer that are left deeper and deeper into the hills. There are still deer in there and good bucks to be found, you just have to be willing to the extra mile to get away from the roads and people. I know a few spots that hold alot of deer but haven't been in them late season so they might not be in there still. Either way, good luck and hope you guys get a bruiser.
