Title: Fishing Lk Chelan next week-need tips
Post by: thinkingman on July 06, 2010, 11:41:59 AM
I am camping with my 6yr old near the town of Chelan.
No access to a boat.
Any ideas for getting into fish?
Bank fishing the Columbia river?
Thanks,
Tman

there's a lot of bass and carp all along the shorelines. I was in a boat fishing month or two ago but saw them everywhere. you can see straight down 30+FT in that lake, very clear (also cold).

if you wanted to spend the money, I know Anton catches a LOT of lake trout (makinaw) and has been limiting non stop lately.

the bass on the shoreline? I'd use regular bass lures, plastics, rapalas, etc. even a bobber and worm would probably catch something on that lake.

for the lake trout, they are deep, 200+ I think. they run downriggers with large flatfish off the bottom I believe.

You can catch trout from the bank at chelan.  Or you could go to Roses lake just outside manson limited bank access but it is a good lake for trout and pan fish.

i used to do good fishing between the bridges downtown, havent had time lately to get up there. roses has some good trout, panfish and spiney ray fishing, but as said there is very limited bank access and its a hotspot. i think you can rent boats at wapato lake (just up the road from roses) wapato has some good trout fishing but i think this time of year its C&R only. antilon lake has a lot of bank access and fewer people but i havent figured out how to fish it.

between the bridges i did good on insect pattern rooster tails, bumble bee pattern and black with silver stripping for trout. theres a good number of smallmouth that hang out there too under the board walk on the south side and under the numerous docks on both sides. if you drive down to chelan falls park and walk out to the island on the north end of the park theres alot of bank access usually do real well on pulling squaw fish out of the weeds and occasionaly hook up a walleye or two.

also, fishing is a big deal when your entire town lives on the shore of a lake and counts on tourism to survive... the tackle shops there are well outfitted and can give you lots of pointers. Last time I was there a guy out on the sidewalk pulled a map out of his pocket and highlighted all his favorite bass spots as long as I promissed to Catch and release! (which I did). Very friendly locals!  ;)

how warm could it get though? It's that nice clear perfect mountain water right off the glacier itself.

Being that the lake is at its maximum capacity this year....not very warm  :yike:
