Title: Gun Safes - Let's See Them
Post by: Wea300mag on March 04, 2008, 08:55:13 PM
Since Mike (Hunting Cowboy) won't post a pic of his new gun safe let's get a new thread of pics of everybody elses safe. I'll start with mine, it's a Pony Express by the Sun Welding Co. It weighs about 650 lb empty, about 800 as is, and is bolted to the floor. It is set up for about 50% guns/50% other stuff, holds 12 long guns and numerous handguns.

Let's see some more.

300 can we get a peek inside that puppy? Does it have ample room for guns and other valuables?

i'd love to post a pic of mine, but i don't have it yet. i'm still trying to decide how big to buy. i am so worried that i'll buy  one and it will be too small.

probably go with a 25 cubic footer, which will hold around 20-22 or so long guns.
keep the pics coming, and maybe open the doors so we can see what the inside looks like.

That safe is a beauty Cowboy. Looks big enough to me. When I had more guns than room for them (pre-divorce) I would only keep the ones I was most proud of in the safe.

Great thread, as I'm also in the market.  Cowboy, I assume the shelves on the left side of your safe come out in case you need the extra gun room?  I don't need the extra room now, but I'm also not very good at getting rid of guns I don't use anymore.  So would be nice to have the shelves now, but be able to convert to extra gun room if needed.

If anyone's interested in Rustic, locking gun cabinet's, custom made, I am picking mine up this weekend and the builder in N. Bend has great prices, I'll throw up some pictures. I paid $500 for a six gun cabinet with locking glass door and lower drawer.

this is what i ordered, made by canon...60x30x24, holds 22 guns..at least thats what the info says. mine will be gray instead of the red in the picture. it seems like a good value for the price. i think we got a good deal and i can't wait till it gets here next week.
dman...looking forward to seeing pics of what you got too.

One last note, he can do a double door cabinet for only around $800 that will hold 12-14 guns, pretty much whatever you want.

Exactly, it's a map chest with sliding drawer's, all the furniture in the picture is "blued" Ponderosa Pine. The guy who makes it, you may have heard of his place -Log Cabin Creations in North Bend. Andre is the owner, you won't find a better guy, or a more skilled woodworker.

Very cool, I will check it out next time in North Bend. I have been looking for some tops like your map case to make some end tables and benches for the outside patio.

Nice! I enjoy that type of rustic decore. We have a log bed, chest of drawers and two night stands that look very similar. I'm gonna have to build me a map chest! That's a useful piece of funiture right there!

He is higher on some items, compared to other's. I compared his price on the map chest to several mail order kind's and he was lower, same with the gun cabinet, I saw several wood gun cabinet's in an SCI issue for 3-5k. Tables and bookshelves are a little higher ballpark.

I'm not going to say he isn't high priced or even sometimes overpriced but when you do buy his higher end stuff you are getting better quality and unique work when compared to his run of the mill stuff. Still not sure it's always worth the price but if you like that sort of furniture he's been at it a long time. He even helped us move a few things.

Very true, I also like to learn from his work, so I can do smaller scale stuff for myself someday. Many don't know this but his son Mike fish's Nootka alot and his wife is the one that has made the F&H news cover twice with big king's in the last year or so. I talk with Mike a lot on fishing, good guy also.

Nice safe rideorange, it is much better organized than mine. That rack is cool to. Excellent use of antlers. I like that way better than piling them up and comparing pile sizes. "My pile is bigger than your pile"  :chuckle:

Looking forward to seeing your safe Ghost Hunter!

Just to set the record straight on that cigar......It has been reduced to ashes. Thanks to huntnphool's keen observation, I decided to do something about it. I celebrated! And so after some coughing and hacking in honor of the birth of our granddaughter, The cigar (not a cuban) is no more.

I've enjoyed all the photos folks and hope to see more!

Really enjoyed the log gun cabinet Dman and the really nice rustic lodgepole rack rideorange!

Looking forward to seeing your safe Ghost Hunter!

Me too!! :(  Been 2 months since the show when I bought it.  Called the dealer, again :dunno:, and  keep getting the story that an entire truckload is delayed from the factory >:( Something about 3 safes holding up the entire shipment.  The dealer in Portland finally gave the factory names and numbers of all the customers waiting for the safes, and told them to call the customers and explain.  Instead of waiting for my call, I contacted the Liberty factory today.  Same song and dance, but supposedly all safes are ready now and waiting for a truck to load on Wed., next week. :bash:  Now I'll be out of town for a few days when it finally arrives.  Patience may be a virtue, but I'm trying hard not to let it wear thin :dunno:  Anybody know a truck driver that needs a load out of Salt Lake City?
Don't own a digital camera yet, so will have to work something out to post a pic, if and when........

I've seen one "real" man cave its in a small town in Alaska there are probably 2-3000 guns in it and every machine gun you can think of. It has a vault door on it too.

The owner also has 3 shipping containers for his ammo.

I know this post went dead but I just heard the story on these pictures from a good friend of mine who met the owner. The owner's name is John Ross a prominant loyer/buisinessman and one of the few holders of a passed down class 3 firearms permit.

John Ross is apparently a libery activist who aquired part of this collection from his father who I believe passed him is class 3 firearms permit.

In order to get to this safe you need to take an elevator below ground. Once you are at the front door of the safe you see three dials to lock or unlock the safe. The middle dial doesnt work normally like the other two. On the other side of the safe door is a glass door that is not only very strong (bulletproof ?) but also rigged and placed so that it will only open when the safe door is closed and so that only one person can get through at a time.  If the safe locks are tampered with 2 explosive devices ignite and send the bolts from the middle dial out welding them in place. Tampering with the locks also locks the elevator leading to the room.  The gap between the glass door and the safe door also has tear gas that drops into the room.

John ross wrote a novel called Unintended Consequences which my friend highly suggested be read.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unintended_Consequences_(novel)
This novel apparently outraged an agency (BATFE?) that tried to serve one of it's new pop up warrants into the pictured facility when John Ross would not cooperate with their threats about his new book.

The story goes that John Ross recieved a phone call from the agency saying that they were having problems at one of his properties. John Ross inquired to how they could have a problem at his property serving a warrant if he wasnt there in the first place. John Ross, about to get on a flight to a prior arranged flight did not feel as though he needed to be in a hurry to release the agent stuck between the glass door and the safe door or the rest of his coworkers stuck there because the elevator had locked them in.

Thats a hell of a collection of old military weapons but I dont see anything in there that would warrant going to those extremes IMHO. Purhaps its what we cant see that he is so worried about, myself I would rather have the Pepsi machine safe :twocents:

A type license is for collectors of firearms.
Type 3 Licensed collector of Curio & Relic (C&R) firearms
To be recognized by ATF as a C&R firearm, a firearm must fall into at least one of the following three categories:
1.Firearms which were manufactured more than 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof;
2.Firearms which are certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; and
3.Any other firearms which derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or because of their association with some historical figure, period, or event. Proof of qualification of a particular firearm under this category may be established by evidence of present value and evidence that like firearms are not available except as collector's items, or that the value of like firearms available in ordinary commercial channels is substantially less.

I wondered this, but didn't want to make the assumption.
