Leaving on Friday for a week in Bamfield - anyone been up yet? Reports?
-
I go every year but at the end of augest. Too early imo. Unless your running wayyyy out.
-
Was up there a couple weeks ago and the fishing was good. Not great.. But good. The guys in their own boats trolling were doing much better than the Charter boys.
-
Nootka was seeing good numbers already on the inside last week, I would imagine Barkley can't be far behind. There are NO anchovy this year in the Nootka area, mostly herring, might be the same situation in Barkley.

Nice.... heard the fish were a few weeks late in AK- good to hear they started showing up.
...and yeah- anchovie fisheries were shut down this year. I'm trying the small red herring...

Heard it's red hot - a buddy came back a day early yesterday because they had their fill of kings, and it was too lumpy offshore to fish for hali's comfortably. They fished 14 mile bank and south bank (7 mile), and apparently you could catch as many 15 - 20 lb. cookie cutters as you want. This guy fishes a lot, and he said it was as good as he's seen anywhere in terms of numbers. They fished some inside - not many fish in there, but the fish they did find were a little bigger (biggest was 26 I think).

I am headed up on Thurs also and the reports I am seeing are getting better. This is a rookie trip for me going up from Neah Bay staying on the dock at bamfield. Any tips on what to take as far as gear. I have riggers and the normal stuff we use down here, lots of herring I assume. Hope the weather/fog cooperate looks like a beautiful area and I have always wanted to do this trip. Any tips would be great. nwhunter
