I am a lurker around here - I joined for the hunting, but really just read everything...however, I did have a question for the fishing section! I love crawfish (I usually go to mineral lake) - but I am going to lake chelan for a vacation, and I was just curious if anyone knows if the lake holds any crawfish!
Thanks for any input!
(BTW, so I can contribute something, I have found cat food and or corn works best in my experiences)

I'm sure it does to some extent as it has a lot of acreage. Its pretty steril though as its so cold, so not sure how they do. Would be cool to hear some experiences there.
-
ive never seen or heard of anyone pulling crawdads out of lk. chelan theres some crawdads in the rock island ponds but thats about an hour drive from chelan and they are not of any real size

Did you use cat food at Mineral?
I tried cat food there last year and did not get one.....though everyone else seemed to be getting there share, lol

Yes, you need to get a bit away from the resort and the public campgrounds though.
The side of the lake with the train tracks (as long as you stay away from the campground) seems to be the best area in my exp.

I would bring the trap along and place it near the mouth of any feeder creeks, I would be amazed if there were not any in the lake.
As long as you don't put it too deep, it should get something :dunno:

My Buddy got a few big Smallies out of Lake Chelan a few years ago and they all were puking up crawdads. I would give it a try! He was fishing near town. Curious to know how you do!
-
find some rock piles under docks, or around the sea wall.
-
Use hot dogs in your traps. In my experience they work better than cat food and smell way better than that shat.
-
There are definately crawdads in Chelan. I have seen more in the south end than the north.
-
I will report back once I go and try it out then!
Thanks!

good luck. I caught some MONSTERS out at lake washington one night a few weeks back. (monsters in my opinion, 8 inches +)

I have seen a few when I was scuba diving but do not think it would be worth it. :twocents:

I've fished the lake for 20 years, and have never seen a crawfish there, nor have ever seen sign of them there. I'm sure there is a few, but I would highly doubt you could ever catch enough to make it worth your while. :twocents:

Thats exactly my first thought, there is a lot of good meat in those claws, especially that one with the Popeye claw.

Thought I would give an update - we tried another day later in the trip, similar location, similar depth, and ended up with 2 in 2 pots. Nothing worth keeping, but if I return and have a boat (we could only swim and set) I would scout out some better locations and give it another whirl.
