I got a chance to look over some country and saw a few bulls. I didn't get a picture of the best one, but did get a few crappy ones through the scope. I biked about 12 miles back behind a gate and went to some other areas with the guidance of a really cool dude (Benhuntin) and his boy. His kid is a moose spotting guru! Thanks Ben, I appreciate the help some of you are trying to give to help me find a good one. I hope Mr. Big makes an appearance.

one through the scope doesn't look like a bad bull, looks like you are off to a good start.
-
looks like a fine moose, benhuntin is a great guy! and knows that counrty well.
-
Back in the day you would see lots of deer and an elk once in awhile. Now it seems like you see moose every time out head out to the woods. In joy the ride, lots of fun with that tag. ;) BTW, I will be home in Chewelah deer hunting the first week of season. If you haven't got your bull yet, I'd love to go on a hunt with you and do some calling.
-
Thanks for the offer. I'm hoping to get it done before deer rifle because I'm not sure how that pressure will effect the Moose.
-
It seems like people don't bother the moose. Wood cutter's, deer hunter's etc., don't mater. There the biggest thing in the woods. The rut is where it's at. ;)
-
get a better camera :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
That's funny. At least i had one that worked. :hello:
-
drew my moose tag in that area a few years back. shot him opening day (oct 1). they were rutting heavy. saw three bulls and two cows on the opener before i shot him...not bad 43 1/2". he had a long scar on his nose and busted ribs from fighting....bikin in behind a gate 12 miles seems a little too abmitious for me, but each their own...good luck ! hindsight i wish I'd used my bow as he was only 40 yds
-
I was mainly exploring the country. Trust me I'm looking for one on the uphill side of a road. They are BIG! If I see a good one 40 yards away I may use a smokepole. Post up a picture of your 43 incher. I need practice judging.
-
tmike are you going to try and take one with your Bow first?
-
I'm leaving my options open and will have a bow and muzzleloader close by, but if I see the one I want and he's over 100 yds the 300 WM is going to get it done. There aren't many entries in the Washington book for Muzzy, in fact I could only find one. That's not entirely important to me but it is intriguing.
-
I bow hunt and called mine in and could have arrowed him no problem, but I left my bow home. :bash:
-
here's the one i shot....should have probably killed it with a bow
-
That's a really good bull brew. I don't think I could hold off on that one. Thanks for posting it.

Sorry PA BEN I'm one of those damn teachers and have been a little busy. I'll try to update this a little better. I have gathered a ton of info from members here and the other site. I also sent out letters to all of last years permit holders asking them if they didn't mind sharing some info to call me otherwise throw the letter away. My phone has rung off the hook with those guys also. If any of those guys are here thanks. I'll do the same. I've made 3 trips over and learned the unit pretty well. If fact besides a couple more areas I've switched my focus on trying to find specific bulls i want to go after. I've seen 9 pretty good bulls and there are 2 in particular at this point I'd like to get a better look at. One we have seen twice in the same spot, a double brow bull that by others estimates (not mine I'm not good enough yet) is 45 plus with nice long points and deep paddles. The other bull I haven't seen but others have that is a 3x2 on the brows and a solid 50. I have that one narrowed down and hope to get a real good look at him through my scope or sites. It hard to sort out all the info, but you will find if you have one of these tags that everyone is willing to help. I'm going to try and get over there the weekend before the 1st and get another look at some of those bulls. I also have a couple guys who live in the area looking and that is really cool. I'll let you know how this unfolds. I want a solid bull, but am realistic about holding out for a 50 although from what I hear that's attainable in the 49DN. What ever I get will be fine with me, the experience has been great so far.
-
Thanks, keep us informed ;)
-
Well time is growing short. Good luck to all those with tags. I just got back from my 4th and last scouting trip. I have one bull I'm going to try for on Friday or at least look over real good again, then after that who knows. I've seen several bulls and have looked at a lot of country. My muzzle loader and rifle are dialed now it's just finding the one and getting it done. Maybe Friday will be the day! Thanks again for those who provided me with info and also to those who are still keeping an eye out.
-
When you get your moose down on friday if you need a hand with anything Tman and I are gonna be up Newport/Usk and maybe Boyer Mtn area tryin for bears. Let me know and I can pm you my number. Good luck!
-

Going to head back to BD later to take care of the cooler full of back straps and tenderloins. Then Ill try to get some pictures up and the details. Just an average weekend.

-
Awsome bull  Congrats :IBCOOL:
-
Magnificent bull, I'd raise my ceiling height just to look at him.
-
Here he is with his girlfriend. He was pissed we were there.
-
Right here he is looking at M_ray and me. We had him at 112 yds. but at a bad angle. We moved up to 87 when he turned to go and the guys stopped him perfectly for a quartering away shot which I made the most of. He took about 10 steps, stopped, did the wobble, and started rolling down the hill. We had the video going, but it was stopped 20 seconds earlier so they could call and stop him. That would have been the topping on the cake to get that.
-
Knight Bighorn, 90 gains ffg 777, 310 knight bullet. That load is really accurate. We found this on the opposite side.
-
Congrats again Tom and thanks for letting me pack ahh I mean tag along!!! :P
