what do you guys think about keeping guns for a collector. I am in a pickle with one right now. I am hoping for some input on this. I am not a collector so I guess that is why i am having a hard time with this.

wether to shoot it or not. I was told once you shoot it the gun will loose value.

So, it's your gun and you feel it is a collector item? Most collectors guns have been shot. Not sure what the issue is, please go on with your explanation

If your not a collector then what's the deal?
Would it be any fun to own a Ferrari or Lamborgini and not drive it or go fast in it.
If you dated Demi Moore would you not want to hit it?
Do you buy beer to put in the fridge just to look at?
If you got the gun, your not a serious collector, at least see how it shoots.

well to start i did not know that i was buying a limited production rifle to start with. Later on in the process of bidding i found out that remington made only 400 of them. I was originally buying the gun because i liked it and thought it would be a good caliber to add to my arsenal. I knew it was different because i have never seen one like it at the time. Like i said before i was not looking to buy a gun that is a collector. It is not an old gun( made in 2002 or so) so remington still does not recognize it as a collector yet but i would assume that it will be since it books out at a substantial amount of money. Just looking for opinions. I guess the main problem is that i want to shoot it so bad i can taste it, but on the other hand i dont want to make a mistake.

Shoot it then, take good care of, don't abuse it. It will still be of value as long as you treat it well.

this is killing me. I cant figure out why though. It's not like i will ever make a fortune with it but it such a great looking gun and when i say great i mean great i would feel so bad if i ever put a scatch on it.

Doggone it, you have me drooling over this rifle and it just dawned on me that you haven't told us the model or caliber. Pony up man, I gotta know.

Thank you, that is one suuweeet piece. I hope you decide to shoot it. I don't think you'll ever regret it. There is a possibility for you to purchase another stock for when you take it to the range or hunting. Keep the fancy one for show and tell. You owe it to yourself to feel that stock against your cheek as you pull the trigger at least once.

i'd shoot the hell out of it. it's a gun and if you're not a collector and aren't looking to make a ton of $$ out of it, shoot it and enjoy it. i'd probably be a little more careful with it than my other hunting rigs, but shoot it and enjoy it.

thanks guys i knew you would tell me to shoot. I wont be able to scope it for a while because buying this gun was a pure accident so i was not ready. I know exactly which scope i will buy i just need to save my money for a few months. What do you guys think about a 6.5-20LR 50mm custom gunmetal grey with target dot. Leupold sure is proud of this set up, but they should be.

I have decided that I am definately going to shoot it. I am a hunter not a gun trader. I will have the gun the rest of my life so who cares what it may or may not be worth. I am glad that i finally came around.

Oh ya i will, will be a while though my wife would freak if a spent another grand on a scope. It wont take me long though to get the $$$. I just blew my wad on these two rifles and out and in state hunting licences. I guess I just have work some O.T. :bash:

it was made to shoot. trained hands put it together so some person who loves good craftsmenship would use it and notice how well it was built.

I had some of the same questions when I bought my Limited Edition 1895. 1000 made. I asked one gun shop owner about it. He said by the time it's worth a lot more I'll be a very old man.
I tuned it, altered it and use it. It can be restored to original easy enough. But I think "Limited Edition" guns are best thought of as Heirlooms.

You bought it 'cause it was gorgeous, and you WANTED to shoot it, to USE it.
Might it drop in value when you shoot it? WHO CARES, it was built to be fired, not sit in a safe. You let it sit in there while you grow old, and when you die your kids will sell it, and somebody else will shoot the thing. Think any of those folks after you will give a crap what your dead ass thought of it??? HELL NO.
Shoot it and enjoy is what I say.
(kinda like a good looking woman, you don't take care of it....somebody will)

I have a pistol that is serial number 1 and is the only one made in this caliber no one else has one collector gun sure but I still shoot it. :guns:
No safe queens in my house.

ya ya i get it. I am going to shoot it. Like i said i am not a collector. I am not sure what i was thinking. I bought the gun because i likes it. So yes as soon as i can outfit the gun it will be shot and it will kill something with four legs. Besides how much can a gun be worth anyway. I dont think one would ever make you rich. I figure i have got about another 1200 or so before the gun is complete as i will not settle for anything less than the best for it. The gun deserves it.
