Edited: Realized that was just a horrible Idea. I would still like to know if anyone has done it however?
I think Ill stick to either the 30 06, or a tree stand with my bow.

The more I think about it, the more I see this as a :bdid: Still curious tho.
Ive bow hunted bear on the ground for years. You do have to be more cautious but I wouldnt consider it overly unsafe. I sometimes use a Mojo critter that I rig with a remote to draw their attention when calling on the ground, same for coyote bowhunting.

Ha you caught me in the act of deleting a post. Okay well thats good to know. Do you use a blind? or what is your tactic?
-
I have taken two with my bow on the ground, one while calling and one while watching an elk wallow. No reason to be overly worried about being on the ground. Actually if your up in the tree they can be right there with you in about a half a second flat. Makes no difference whether your on the ground or in a tree....alot farther to fall once they latch on if your in a treestand. :chuckle:

I'll be bowhunting from the ground for bears this Sunday. Is it against the law to have a 300 win mag as backup? :peep:

Never tried a blind, just spot and stalk or sit and call for bear and yotes.

I hunt from the ground with a recurve...
have not harvested a bear yet, but am pretty sure that when I throw a sharp stick at one, it is going to run away faster than they do when I just walk in on them.....
A "Bill Sweetland Compressed Cedar" with a "Grizzly" Broadhead (720gr) from a 75# Damon Howatt wont sting like a bee, its gonna hurt like a mother !!

to me its no diffrent then calling on the ground, i plan on using my bow for part of the time this year as well. and both mouth and foxpro as well.

Not illegal at all to carry both.

Nut up!
Bears on the ground with a bow are the way to go. My bear, last year, ran by me at 8 feet. That will wake you up!
-
Lots of people hunt bears on the ground with the bow... Not a horrible idea at all. Unless the bear eats you. I don't think there have been many bears that have eaten bow hunters. Guess - less than half a dozen fatalities of guys specifically going after a bear w/ bow and getting eaten.

Thanks for NOT deleting:) I have never bear hunted before much less than with my bow on the ground, but that is what I am about to TRY on sunday. Hopefully I won't be bear poop. I am hoping if I shoot him he runs the other way, lol. (otherwise I just may be bear poop)

I've only had limited bow hunting experience, but I think this year I'm going to try to get on some bears with my bow. I've gotten within bow range several times in the past with my rifle, on bears I had no intention of killing, Just to see how close I could get. If you get a bear feeding, and the wind is right, its one of the "easier" ;) game animals to get close to. Well, not easy, but they're not as weary as a prey animal thats for sure.

The bear I shot while watching an elk wallow was standing on the tree I was sitting on, she was probably 9 yards or so. I double lunged her and she rolled around and let out a roar and came up running....right at me! Ran past me close enough I could have literally smacked her on the butt when she went by. She was just running to get away and had no clue I was there...they don't always run away from you. :)

Ya, just what I thought, that's why I am hoping not to become bear poop:) Do you think cattle being released into the same area will cause a bear to change his routine? I checked my cam on sat- no bear or elk, just 67 pics of cows.

If I try getting one with my bow I'm definitely going to be packing my .357 mag with me.

The only way to go... with a bow!
