I received one of the first production run bows about a month ago. This bow is sweet. It is no speedster but the draw is soo smooth. Nice valley and a very solid wall. This bow edges out my 2008 Guardian for stealth. It is virtually silent and shock free at the shot. Fit and finish is terrific. Tuning was a breeze. I centered the arrow and leveled it 90 deg from the string and shot a bullet hole my first arrow. This bow draws so smooth and holds so steady that I may be hunting with it over my Destroyer 340 even though it is almost 30fps slower with the same arrow.

The young man that designed the logos for the Maitland bow brought his into the shop a while ago. The bow is smooth and very quiet, but it is a step backwards when it comes to speed. At 60# with a 28" draw it shot a 450 gr arrow at only 225 fps. The bow is a split limb, and I notice there was play in the limbs at the limb pocket. I put a couple thin spacers in the bow to tighten things up. Just didn't seem right to me. Remember guys this is just my opinion, but I think there are better bows on the market. :peep:
Did you consider that the bow could be designed to not have a tight fit where you put the shims? I think I would have contacted the designer/manufacturer first. Rob Maitland is a great guy and always quick to reply to emails.
It was said twice before that this is no speed bow. The discussion on speed has been played out many times and there seems to be a strong opinion that there are more important factors when it comes to archery. Such as a smooth drawing, quite and very accurate bow.
This is just another choice when it comes to bows and I think a very nice bow for a new manufacturer.
Speed cams are in the works for 2011.
Let me know when carp. Or go to Wilderness Archery in Bow, between Mt. Vernon and Bellingham. I shot my Retribution a little and it shoots great. I had guys in Darrington say that they have to have one. It isn't a speed demon.......yet. But it is quiet and accurate. I have it set at 67lb and it draws smoother than my Allegiance set at 60. And this bows stacks arrows.

Old Dog I didn't see your chrono but.........my Retribution set at 29" 66lb (which draws easier than my Allegiance @60#) and a 386 gr arrow with silencers, peep and loop on the string shoots 302fps. These bows are by no means a Destroyer or Monster class speed bow. But shootability, smoothness and quiet they are right up there if not better IMO.
In 2011 the Maitlands will get a smooth and speed cam (340 IBO) as well as 2 new bows to the line up.

looks like a sweet shooter. congrats.
386 grain arrow? that's a little light for 66 lb bow - unless you're not hunting with it.

Depends on what you mean by light. These are not my hunting arrows but I used a 360 gr arrow last year out of my allegiance and had no problems. But yeah gotta get at least 6gr/pound, them gamies have them hightech arrow and bow scales with them. :P

I do know that there is some kenetic energy here. It took 2 of us to pull arrows out of a straw bail yesterday. If speed is what drives a bow purchace then look at something else. If shootability and quietness is important then take a look at these. There are a ton of great bows out there to choose from right now. I don't think that you can make a bad choice.

My Retribution at 29.5 and 63lbs is shooting a 360gr arrow in the high 270's. That puts IBO closer to 307. I talked to Rob Maitland about that and was told that what I am getting is about spot on and they had to really tinker/tune to get 318 IBO. I suggested lowering the IBO rating so that he doesn't get raked across the coals as more of these bows are sold.
I would check somethin. I set mine up for huntin yesterday. Same as you 63# a 414gr Victory 350 bow is 29" and I got 282fps which I think is perfect for hunting and fixed blade BH's. Same arrow through a Strother Infinity at 60# same speed.

Matt, shot the same 360gr arrow through my chrono with my Destroyer 340 @ 60lbs and 29" and get around 302fps which is about right where it should be. My Guardian @ 60lbs and 29" with an IBO of up to 323 comes in around 282fps. Like I posted earlier my Ret which is timed and tuned perfectly with a claimed IBO of 318 gets around 278 @ 63lbs and 29.5" which puts realistic IBO around 307fps.
Strother Infinity IBO is up to 343. Maitland Retribution IBO is 318. Like I said, Mr. Maitland himself told me that they had to really tweak/tune to reach the claimed 318 IBO. Unless you got the VTR speed cams and limbs there is no way you would get those speeds out of a Retribution.
Not that it matters though as we both stated before this bow wasn't designed for speed it was designed to be smooth and quite.
