I have a single shot that is set up like that- but I think that is a homely sucker :twocents:
-
I used to want one for grouse while deer hunting, until a buddy bought one and told me the pattern opens up so fast, he couldn't kill a grouse at 10 yards. Would be great for self defense though.
-
yeah they are not great with lighter bird shot but good with oobuck and slugs i have shot 2 a short barrel and the longest barrel as well both did not pattern well with bird shot. i have a bondarms snake slayer the brand new one and it is half the weight and shoots 00buck just as good as the judge short barrel.

I know that a lot of people think that the Judge is worthless, but I kind of like them. I don't own one but my brother has the 2.5" barrel, 3" chamber version. It really is fun to shoot. It might not be the ideal grouse killer, but it would certainly perform well as a deffensive arm. And I think that's what Taurus designed it for.

i agree york,
that is just what it was desinged for. it was not desinged to hunt grouse. it is a great close range self defense gun. and with 00buck it is a real good one at that i run the 3" oobuck and there is 5 pellets in that and the 2.5 i think has 3 pellets. i have also shot remington slugs and winchester slugs threw one as well.

I have one and I use it for dog training. Works great on pointed, pen raised birds ;)

i found a place that will put one of those tc choke tubes in the judge for like 100 bucks i talked to the guy that does it its supposed to make the shot loads work better if i get a judge and i really want one i may have to find out
-
I may get a carbine model when they come out, I think it would be fun.

Yep. Has the same thing. Crippled one at about 10 yards and had to chase it down and finish it off by hand.

They're too darn big for a defensive pistol IMHO.
They show commercials of women packing them in their purses...
It'd be a decent night-stand gun I suppose, but I can't see it for packing.
Definitely a good, "I don't want to have to practice..." type defensive pistol (i.e. spray and pray)
Performance isn't all that great with 45LC and a well placed, quality expanding bullet will do a whole lot more damage than a copper plated round ball.
Anyone seen the new polymer version? Yikes!

I have one with a 6 inch barrel and it does well on birds and squirrels your not going to get them at long distances but within 15 yards or so it works good. My wife's dad has one with the 2.5 and it sucks with bird shot.

I read this a while back when my Dad was talking up "The Judge", it seems more of a novelty to me. I would stick with the 45LC but it seems pretty worthless as a self defense gun as it's huge, very heavy and has a small capacity, not so hot for a ccw. On a positive note I am pretty sure you could KO just about anyone in one thump with this thing if you ran out of bullets.

I shot the Judge last weekend, up off of Beckler River Road. It was fun to shoot both .410 and .45's but then I shot my Remington 870 and the watermellon we were shooting at blew away. In a home defense situation I'd take my Remington any day.

anybody even seen the judge carbine in stores yet?
oh just for schnitzingiggle, i saw a .410/45lc derringer the other day.
even though the judge isnt the greatest thing since sliced bread, one thing it is doing for us all (well... us meaning anybody who shoots 410) is its getting more places to stock 410 shells.... i dont know if its going to affect price of ammo any, but i have definatley noticed more places stocking 410.
