Two by spikes. Something in the water?
I am not sure what is going on over here, but both these bucks are growing forks on one side and spikes on the other. These bucks came through a week apart.
Bigger

I am pretty sure that the larger buck is this one that I photographed about a month ago. The trail cam is set up about 100 yards away from here.

Yea, I'll do that. :chuckle:
If I didn't have the late buck permit, I would try for the larger one. He is a big a$$ "trike". :chuckle:

:) BTKR I need another trike to keep my 08' Trike comapny! ;)

If a 2 X 1 is a trike.......what do you call a 3 X 1 ???
Is it a fike?
-
Or a "Spork"?

I call a 3x1 a season saver!

Usually an older deer with a spike or deformed antler on one side has had an injury to a leg or testicle on the other side. The injury might be healed, but he'll have an odd antler on that side every year.
A fawn that occasionally came to our yard with his doe had an injury to his left hind leg and it caused him to limp. When he was 1 year old he grew a fork on the left and a spike on the right and sometimes we saw him limp with his left leg. Last year I got a pic of his similar but bigger antlers.
I'd take any one of them, they all taste good and their hide/leather is beautiful.

Good to see you still checking in Diane.

I have noticed this is a typical trait for blacktail deer, have several sporks on my property this year. The one picture you have with the bent spike could well have been from an injury. One thing is for sure though all those deer would taste fantastic. :twocents:
