Title: price question on boat motor
Post by: let.it.fly on August 03, 2010, 09:07:59 AM: how much would you expect to pay for a 140 horse mercury outboard with full hydrolics, runs excelent, 2 stroke, 1980?

I would want to see it run for at least 20 minutes before buying an outboard that old. That thing is going to eat you alive on gas too, 4-strokes save you so much money on gas it's incredible.

Good runners, never let you down, etc. - $10/hp tops.
Runs, but needs some work - $5/ hp tops.
Not running - scrap value less disposal fees for non-salvageable parts.

Of course thats just a starting point. Could be a few bucks more,or less depending on condition. One guys excellent is another guys junk.

Call a couple dealers and get their opinion.
