I have seen in the news about poachers losing there guns, toys, and mounts, and wondered what they do with the mounts they seize? Are they sold at police auctoins or donated to private clubs? Just kinda curios on that, after reading an article about elk poachers, and all the mounts that were taken from them.

Most of the time they are auctioned. Or a lot of times if it is something that fish and wildlife does not have on display they will display it. Sometimes will donate it to a museum, but not often they usually try and make a dollar with it.

so how do we find out about the auctions for this kinda stuff??
-
that would be a cool thing 8)

Idaho's auction was in the news this year as it was the first in about 3-4 years. It was during spring bear sometime. I remember seeing it several times on the Spokane news.

I bought a 325 elk rack from the one in Idaho.
They do not come about a lot, just have to keep checking with them.

You have to remember they probably sit in some locked storage until trials are over etc.

I talked to a warden at the Idaho auction and I guess they hold them every year but they are rotated between 7 locations. This year it was held in Coeur d'Alene and next years auction is supposed to be held in Lewiston.

What does something like the 325 bull cost? I am just curious what kind of revenue these bring - I don't need specifics - a range would suffice.

Another one I started thinking about, has a taxidermeist had a customer not pay for a mount that has been made, and what does the tasicermest do with the mount after that?

Depending on what type of animal it is, I have a contract that after 60 days it becomes my possesion and I am allowed to sell it to recover my costs. You can not do this with migratory birds like duck and geese, that is why most taixdermists require you to pay money up front in case you are a no show on picking them up.
