a bear out of a tree? Sitting there sipping a beer and watching my boy color while we shared some chicken strips and fries after a little perch fishing last night. Two fellas near me talking bear. Asked if they have done any good and said nope. One fella mentioned that he shot a little one out of tree last year but nothing yet. Hmm, kind of unsporting?
-
I shot one out of a tree a few years back. I missed it on the ground and about 30 minutes later I caught up with it after a pine cone fell out of a tree near me, then I got suspicious and found him way up towards the top. I didnt fell bad at all after killing him, it was totally sporting and the chance of finding him up the the tree were pretty slim. I wouldnt have a problem doing it again...

I don't know if I would but I see no difference between that and shooting a cat out of a tree. :dunno: If shooting a bear out of a tree is thought of as unsporting then what is the difference in shooting a cat out of a tree? just sayin. :twocents:
-
Very good point. Both can be pretty damn scary when put in a corner.
-
Whats the difference between shooting one from up a tree, from behind a stump, from 500 yards away unsuspecting in a clear cut?
do you need to count coup on them before shooting them?
-
I don't really know if there is a difference. I think I'd blast it.
-
I would shoot without hesitation. Why not? I can't see why a bear being in a tree would not be shot. You hunted him and it just so happened he was in a tree........BANG.............
-
Yep I shoot it. No hesitation if its a bear worth shooting, and to me that is any that has a face. :chuckle: I dont really see the dilemma with it. How is it any different than killing any other unsuspecting animal? :dunno: I think people think to much. :chuckle:

Shoot 'a' Bear out of a tree? Yes. Shoot a little one out of a tree? Probably not. If I wouldn't shoot it on the ground, I'd get some photo's and move on. But if it was like Bearhunter said, after the track/chase, then that is sporting enough for me, -if it was one I'd take on the ground. Being in the tree could give the shooter a better look at the critter to determine if it's really worth taking. If young but near to being weened, I'd hang around and call for mamma.
If it was my trees that I planned to harvest that the bear was killing, I'd have no issue shooting him in a tree.

What's the difference between shooting it out of a tree, over a bait pile, in a berry bush, clearcut, knapping?
-
I agree with Kain people think a little too much...I could easily talk myself out of killing just about anything...except child molesters and rapists those should die period end of story no reason i can come up with at all why not to...
and yes I would shoot one out of a tree just not with a 410 ;) plus he was really kinda little
I want to go on a hound hunt and I am pretty sure hounds put the bears up trees :dunno:

B/C there are worse things than death that we could do to them. Not that the justice system lets us..... i'm just sayin

Maybe it would more sporting to climb the tree and shoot the bear out while he's in the tree! :chuckle: It would separate the men from the boys.
-
It is was a cub still with mama, NO. Otherwise yeah I'd shoot it.
-
I have no problem with it, as long as the shot is safe, heck ya, I would.
-
Hell ya, bear down baby!!! :mgun:
-
If i had the chance I would take one in a tree.
-
If the bear was broad side and a 219 yard shot, dead bear :bfg: You made a good call if the shot didn't feel right
-
I don't see the difference between thebear in the tree or me in a tree stand. Either way one is higher than the other so I would defiantly take the shot if it was a good bear.
-
I would shoot a bear in a tree, on a rock, or a stump. I would even shoot one if it jumped. I would shoot one in the dirt, or on some grass, I would shoot it in the side or in the A$$. I would shoot it if it was brown and even a little round. I would shoot it if it was white as long as it put up a lil fight. I would shoot it if it was black, I would shoot it laying on my back.
Bottom line shoot the fricken thing if it is legal.
There are some things that are ethical some things are not. A bear being in a tree to me is very ethical, it is what they do, they go in trees.

Hmm? Stationary target, sitting still? The chance to aim very carefully, taking your time to put the shot exactly where it should go...?
What's wrong with that?

I disremember this one time (at band camp) when a similar question was asked about a sleeping elk in his bed...(this was in an archery magazine)....
Bottom line, if a wild animal is stupid enough to let ME get that close to it, I consider it gene pool cleansing. This is an animal that shouldn't be breeding.
