So, here I sit. Do I drive and hike into an area Dirty24d sent me to. A nice looking logging area. Had some real bear likely looking spots and would like to walk a bit further. Yep, its hot. I'm hot inside, hot outside. Also, if I get something will I dehydrate and die before getting it back to the truck. Is anyone going out this evening? I'm torn....
-
I spotted a hog bear today right in the middle of a meadow and didnt go after it due to the heat!!! no way could I have gotten him outta there before he spoiled!!! make sure you keep that in mind!!! Good luck!! Justin
-
Good point. I would be hunting solo or maybe with Dirty24d. Anyone else?
-
Heck, I am not even sure I want to go fishing this evening. Hunting in this heat, would be a real ummm well, you know.
-
Why not go out anyway. Check out the area. fined good spots to sit and watch. Just because you see a Bear doesn't mean you have to shoot it. If you see one he may stay there for a little while if there is food there for him. Never know if you don't get out.
-
It's too hot. If I go out it will be in my truck with the A/C on as cold as it will go. I will not be hiking anywhere. We did go out this morning and pick up our three trail cameras we had out for 3 weeks. But I left the house at 5:45 this morning. If you want to hunt when the weather's hot like this, I think it would be best to get out in the woods by 5:30 a.m. and head home by about 8:30 a.m. Just my :twocents:

better to just chill for a couple a days, good for the body, good for the bear and the meat...safety first brothers and sisters..its a long season and the berries are getting better, the wild blackberries are coming in now in my spots
-
I saw a bear yesterday at 2pm .The bears don't seem to be to bothered by the heat.
-
I'm going! never too hot to be in the woods :twocents:
-
I went out this weekend by myself and had a great time.
-
I went out today from 1100 am till bout 3pm just for the funk of it. Saw a cow elk, but no bears. Black berries are just getting ripe where I was.
I was glad I went out. I hit the woods and stayed in the shade. It wasnt too bad.

That's where I'm hunting tonight, out on kellogg lake road. I'll be out there in a half hour or so. Best of luck to you if I don't see you
-
I alsi hunt kelloge lake, what are you driving?
-
I'd be out if I wasn't busy!
-
yeah, i think it is to hot for them to be movin much.
-
SWEET SUCCESS!
I managed to kill off four beers before the wife/kids got home. Even got the grill going.
Just couldn't drag myself out. Figured, yes, the walk would be nice and probably learn a thing or two about the area but...........it's to hot.
So, I ended up with a fresh beer in hand and unloaded the truck from yesterday. Two pork chops and four beers later I think I made the right call. Don't have to worry about your beer spoiling in the heat. At least I don't when I set my mind to it.
-
I saw 2 bears yesterday evening and another this morning at 9:30.

I was in the white Land Rover.
-
its not that hot, last year on opening day it was 99 when I left the truck, saw 4 bears that evening, soon as the hillsides shade bears will come out no matter the heat.
-
Even if the Bears are not moving in the clear cuts and berry fields out in the open, they are still moving. You just need to find out where they are moving when it is hot out. I highly doubt they are curled up in the shade waiting out the heat. They are probably sticking to shady areas that get enough sun for berries to grow but keep them out of the direct sun. Even the shade is a lot cooler than open sun.

Good call.

To me the point is not whether or not a person can find game during this heat, but is it possible to get a bear out before the meat is spoiled? Also it's just plain uncomfortable to be out hunting when temperatures are in the 90's, or upper 80's. Sorry but it just doesn't even sound like fun to me. Especially when we only have to wait a few days, and the high temps will be back down into the upper 60's.

That is my feeling as well. Way to HOT for me, If you knock down a big bruin you will be hard pressed to get it out before the meat starts spoiling, esp if you shoot it down in a draw or way back in. I can wait until it cools down before I'm heading out.

I get heat sick so if I go out it is simply to look and to sit.....there is no way I am gonna risk my health to this stupid heat that I know will end ;) ...its foggy here again :)

Than don't hunt areas that give you a hard pressed time linit of getting a Bear out. You can hunt in this heat you just need to be smart about it. You may not want to hunt some of your honey holes if they are to far back in. You may not want to shoot a 400lbs bear @ 500 yards standing in the middle of a clear cut when your all by your self with no shade close by or a creek.

It was too damned hot to go outside this weekend much less hunt. I battled this crap back in Missouri during the archery season. Not only was it 80-90 degrees, but you had to bring the animal out whole and drive it to a registration station THE SAME DAY. What a pain in the ass that was just trying to get the animal back to your camp just to get it out of the hide and cooling. No more for me.

I agree 100%.

i'm leaving for the coast tomorrow. will have no problem with the bear spoiling now. didnt feel that way on the eastside on the opener. Rick

went up Saturday...hot hot hot did not see or hear a thing, my hunting partner kicked up 40 elk :)
-
It should get good at weeks end with the cooler weather.

I might get out this evening...am waiting for a phone call :bash: :bash: its still cool and cloudy here with a bit of a breeze...really wanted to go double check my rifle I had my scope fall off last time I was at the range :o (don't ask strange stuff happens to me on a regular basis :chuckle: ) got it back on and sighted in but haven't shot it since then and been meaning to.....would seriously suck to go to shoot a bear and have the scope be off ....
